Imagine if Messageboards like this existed 30+ years ago! (1 Viewer)

P.J. Your comment "Maybe that means mixing in some ideas that worked waaaaaaaaay back then, maybe it means new stuff. Possible some of both, but ignoring the obvious and thinking everything is all rainbows and unicorns will not help anything improve either Pick The Winners"

Spot on target!!!!!!!!!! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing today that you did yesterday but expecting different results!!!!!!!!!!!

why does this messageboard have to keep changing?....was just getting used to the new format, then things change again.
why!?.....i don't understand.

Joe, while there are many great things about drag racing, you have to be able to look around and realize that things are not going well. Now I wasn't around in the 60's so I have no idea if drag racing was better than but I sure know that it can be better then it is today.

Where did you all get the idea that I thought everything was perfect in NHRA? Go back and read the title of this thread...

It can always be better, but it sure is getting better crowds than the Nostalgia races are getting, that's a Fact!
You always go back to nostalgia. Good thing you didn't go to the March Meet and didn't have to park miles away in the groves.

Anyway, it is not all about nostalgia. You need to go to some of the southern grudge events where there is no John Force and they have to finally close the gates and turn everyone else away.

Just like I've posted before early 70s and mid 80s were my heydays in Drag Racing and it was a lot easier then, everybody was making good money and it was less expensive to build and maintain cars then. Entry fees were reasonable just about everything back then was well balanced to what you earned. Bottom line you have less interest in people getting involved or watching the sport because it's not affordable. It will take getting the right people running this country and people in NHRA in general to get the balance back. When that happens the sport will prosper again.

I think if the March Meet were held at Pomona, it wouldn't have nearly the atmosphere, and it wouldn't look nearly as packed as it does at Famoso. And I keep going back to Nostalgia cause soo many here think Real Drag racing died 35 years ago!

Personally, I just like drag racing..period.

You name it..

I'm with you on that one David! I could care less if it's boats, motorcycles, or cars......pro stock, FC, super comp, nostalgia FC, etc. If it's drag racing, I want to watch it.....and even better if I can watch it in person!

Getting back to topic RE 30+ years ago; what did someone call Shirley (or vice versa)!

Thanks for noticing.

I remember how a lot of racers came here on Mondays just to see what everyone was saying about them. Many of them participated on this board until a few of the the single digit IQ posters chased them off. Remember the big debate on heat treated chassis tubing after Force almost lost his life in his funny car? I think that battle was won right here on Nitromater.

I still check in just in case Larry Fullerton, Mike English or Kevin Stith step in it. When it happens I want to say I saw it right here.

Everyone is on FB and twitter like I said in another post on another thread.

I think you are right about everyone being on FB or Twitter.

Peoples interest are changing from what they were just five years ago. I see it in all forms of racing from performance companies, N.H.R.A., racing forums like this one and just in a number of other business associated with racing. I see some of the biggest companies selling racing parts holding on and hoping something changes soon for them.

Sad part is no one including myself knows how to change what is happening.

Anyone who does not see this trend happening is either in denial or just does not understand what is happening right in front of their eyes.

I really hate to see this happening but it is and I am not sure where racing will be in another 10 years at this rate.

Or, because we have all been through the nasty economy, you will have more people who like to wrench on their own cars and spend the money on a new tranny or what have you to run at their local track (even as short as it might be) instead of a huge outlay for travel, hotel and tickets with nothing but a good time to show for it afterward. Personally and as much as I would love to meet some of the people here face to face, my new engine/trans gives me the best value for my dollar with the potential for a lot more fun, even though going to Bandimere would be fairly inexpensive for me, the money thing works better in my garage.

MIROC Spring Nationals last weekend had 844 entries. 80% young people. Drag racing has change, and the older people just don't get it.
