IHRA cancels some 2026 events (11 Viewers)

Those were the drivers I really enjoyed watching. The IHRA staff were very gracious and helpful. The party at Buckeye Lake was an excellent addition. The only problem I had with IHRA was I wanted them all to win.

The racers loved the IHRA because they were paid more and what they were worth. They got free ice, dinners etc. All of that costs money and that is why the IHRA is now gone. It’s great to treat racers better but it comes at a cost. Why do you think the major NHRA racers didn’t go? Were they loyal to NHRA? Nope. They didn’t go because they knew this is what was going to happen and they didn’t want to be there when it did. They are all smart business people and everybody except the IHRA loyalists like yourself knew this was going to happen. It’s not like most of us hated the IHRA. I watched every single race just like I do NHRA. I’ll watch FC Chaos, PDRA, Mid West Pro Mod, and NHRA divisional if it’s a free stream. I love drag racing.

Just curious. Did you get paid for the last Columbus race? You always did a good job on the mic the few times I heard you at NHRA national events.

There are a lot of Nitro racers that don’t require sponsors approval to run. They might be on their own dime to race IHRA but the big TC money would have been worth it. Kalitta, Torrence, Hyde and Chad Green could have but didn’t. Shawn Reed was the only regular that took that chance.

Part depends on how you do it. For instance, it costs Kalitta much more than the $50K winners purse to get all the trucks, eqiuipment and personel to the track. And there's no guarantee that you would win anyway. If their sponsors don't need to be there, then why do it?

NAPA told Ron Capps they wanted him in Maple Grove, and were going to pay the freight to get him there because it is an area that has some of their manufacturing and corporate folks. They wanted the day at the races. If the Atlanta track had come through, I can see them being there as well.

MAC Tools is in Ohio, and they bring a very big preseance to Norwalk. If there was no event in Norwalk, I would imagine that MAC would have wanted Kalitta in Columbus. But they didn't since they have Norwalk.

Do sponsors dictate which racers they CAN'T attend or which races they MUST attend?

Sponsors have contracted the race team to appear at the events specified in the contract. In most cases it is all of the NHRA events.

I've never heard of a sponsor telling a team not to do other events, but they rarely would pay extra.

There are also cases of a team not running the sponsor's colors at a non-contracted event. Think of some of the special bodies John Force would run in pre-season testing or at the Night Under Fire at Norwalk, if it's not part of the contract, then the sponsor isn't guaranteed the normal signage on the car.

i'm guessing the appearance money at night under fire is probably very similar to a semi-final or even r/u or winner finish
at an nhra event? for a lot less time and parts. probably almost similar is cordova a couple weeks later, which is celebrating
the world series of drag racing 70 year anniversary. 1956 - 2026.

Perhaps this will be written in slightly bad taste, but the Darana Hybrid website says this on the home page:

"Darryl H. Cuttell, President/CEO and a master electrician, is a member of the Tuscarora Native American Nation and operates Darana Hybrid as a high-performance operation guided by the Native American Code of Ethics from an 800-year-old Native American legacy and tradition that says all people who work together,...."

Tuscarora Nation member? Has, then, his recent conduct as it pertains to IHRA given new meaning to the old phrase "Indian giver?"
