IHRA cancels some 2026 events (4 Viewers)

Add this to the unsubstantiated rumor mill: I had a racer tell me that there will be 6 Nitro races next year. Don't know where he heard it or if it's true but it can be todays addition to the rumor mill.

A lot of you are know Bob Harris and his son Jason who race the Party Time Camaro. He shared this on facebook.

I’ve got to get this off my chest and if u are a racer or a fan and don’t like what I say just tough. I’ve seen so many negative post about IHRA in the last day or so I’m so disappointed in the people are so glad IHRA has failed in their Nitro Series. What’s wrong with u people, do u hate racing or do you just want to bloat or see something fail. When we started PDRA in 2014 I remember the same key board warriors saying that PDRA wouldn’t make it thru the year and they would fail and leave racers hanging. Guess what, didn’t happen, 12 years later still going strong. IHRA can do the same, yes they are struggling right now but that can change overnight but some people just want it to fail because they only want to get on Facebook and say I told u so. Nobody has had more dedication and time as my son and his team to run IHRA and PDRA this year and we’ve had a great time with both organizations. I was told by IHRA uppers that all the racers will get paid from the triple crown race and I believe it. I think if Darryl can get his feet solid on the ground for 2027 we will be back running the Nitro series again. Let’s hope IHRA and PDRA and NHRA continue to have races for us because we all love drag racing. Negative and stupid comments about data centers and condos make me sick. Let’s cross our fingers and hope Darryl gets things rolling again. Let’s support PDRA the rest of the season and help put people in the seats. Let’s talk and think positive and forget the negativity. I’m sorry for the long post but I love racing with my son and grandchildren and all the friends we’ve made with racers , fans, and friends and I don’t want that to change. See everyone at Bristol at the next PDRA race.

After this year's debacle, how can anyone believe anything that comes out of that group? They have lost all credibility. At this point, I hope the racers get paid for Columbus, anything else is icing on the cake.

Well about everything I have been thinking seems to be covered. I will just say unfortunately there is not enough youth interested in cars to support drag racing, fact. Yes some are but they are few and far between. Back in the day we would have a hundred cars at every Burger King on Long Island, cruise from one to another. K mart parking lot Etc. Guys lived to get their license and a car, now kids do not even want a license.
Nitro will be going the way of Ringling Brothers circus down the road as we old people die off. And IMO it will be because of a lack of car count as opposed to spectators. We have already lost most real sponsors, look at all the self funded teams that have come and gone, now B2B is big. What is going to happen when a few owners die off ?? that is going to be multi car hits.
And before everyone jumps in and tells me how good they are doing, it wasn't long ago that there was actually bumping in qualifying. 20+ cars in TF & FC and even more in PS, remember that ?? cheering to get your guy in so he could race. A group cheering for Budweiser and another for Miller the great beer wars. MOPAR, Ford, Chevy, Oldsmobile, Pontiac....friendly rivalries talking crap in the stands.

Bob, you couldn't have said it better. Most of the negative talk on facebook is coming ftom those that don't even race or go to the races. Seems like most of the racers love what Darrell has done and want to see it succeed. I hope he gets it straightened out for next year and we see more awesome racing at IHRA events.

LOL, this is a racing site and most here have bashed the IHRA from day one. Misery loves company.

I guess they just want to see drag racing die. The real current racers seemed to be happy to me, like Bob and Jason Harris. Which current, relevant racers here have bashed the IHRA?

There are differences between wanting drag racing to die, bashing IHRA, and being skeptical of some of the claims and actions made by IHRA.

Everyone keeps saying money issues however if you look at the big picture IHRA is offshore racing, drag boats, roundy round, tractor pulling and they are all still running. Maybe Darryl is tired of the drag race crowd bad mouthing him and he has decided to move on from it, spend his money where it is appreciated.

Possibly. Or maybe he went into drag racing without a good plan. Any business with a good plan would not change direction like this.

As far as empty stands go, I do not attribute that to young people having short attention spans (we have the perfect sport for that).
More to lack of promotion and the fact that they knew there would be (proven) backlash to 1/8 mile Nitro by the fans and still went that route;
Don't know if AI has secret information, but it states Nitro is permanently off IHRA
