I always wondered why it was called top fuel (1 Viewer)

Because people got tired of saying AA/FD, AA/GD, A/FD (junior fuel) BB/GD, BB/FD, AA/FC, A/FC, BB/FC (Alky Flops) and throw into the mix N/FC, ect...

we used to call nitro cars Fuelers, and the Gas Rails Top Gas... Think someone woke up one day and realized Alky is a fuel also, and not Gasoline....

And don't forget all the "lil" adders that sometimes ended up in a tank of Pop.

Who wrote that thing?

"at speeds approaching the power of a fighter jet,"

How can speed approach power? Apples and oranges... jeesh...

That comment makes no sense to me on any level.

If memory serves me right T/F really is the survivor of the old eliminator brackets names, all fuel powered cars used to race in the Top Fuel Eliminator bracket and the gas cars in Top Gas Eliminator. Then at the end of the event sometimes compete for Top Eliminator or even two 32 car fuel eliminator brackets raced for Top Fuel Eliminator You might be better off asking Gibbs but I think this is the evolution of the name Top Fuel
