True he never should have got into the car, and I wouldn't 2nd guess him, but he was smart enough to make the decision before they started the car that he should stop. Glad he did.
He may have had symptoms, but I’m sure he felt better prior to being strapped in that car for what seemed like 30 minutes while the other finals ran. Hope he’s doing better

The driver has to qualified in the same car that he races. Austin Prock had to get qualified in Millican's car before he could drive it during eliminations. You can't just put someone in the seat at the last moment. At least that's how I see it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
OK, everybody is right about a driver qualifying to race in eliminations. It was stupid of me to post such a comical idea.
Wait, here's my problem, my tin foil hat was on crooked.

I (for some reason) have always be susceptible to heat issues. It's the sickest feeling in the world affecting your entire body. There's no describing it. I salute Justin for doing the right thing and keeping himself, and everyone else safe. It could have been a disaster.

We've been under Heat Alert in Phoenix. 112 yesterday & about the same today. Bleh This year has been strange for weather. Way more rain than our normal 7" per year. Fire, floods, snowed in May in high country, etc. Oh yeah, micro bursts in Phx that wiped out a bunch of big trees. I go to Costco at 9 AM, cuz it's the time they let in, uh, us "older folks". Beat the heat a little bit.

What if. Justin is pushed to the fireup area and “Sparkling Lice” is a no show. Wouldn't Justin have to fire and stage to take the green for the win?
Ironically that was the first thing that popped into my head obviously not knowing what was going on with Justin, I figured the car would not fire, could not see from my vantage point that it was much more serious. I ran into Alan during winner's circle photos and asked him what would have happened if say Leah goes to do the burnout and her car breaks and she does not stage and take the tree. He basically said they would wait until both cars/teams were ready and run them then.

As far as Justin's decision to pull out of the car I applaud him for making that tough call. Had he had muscle cramps or had he passed out at some point in the run it could have been horrific. As someone who lives in Phoenix and works outside you do not take any chances and you respect what the heat can and will do to your body. Even to someone young and fit it can go bad very quickly, by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated and in the heat that was Pomona this past weekend and especially wearing the firesuit and helmet and all of the safety gear dehydration can turn into heat exhaustion to heat stroke in minutes. I'm sure he will learn from this and make sure he stays well hydrated from now on because what he went through is pretty scary, I've had heat stroke once when I was a kid and to this day it still scares the hell out of me.

I was in Pomona so I missed all of the rain this last weekend but came back in time to "enjoy" the 112 today at work. The last few weeks we have not been as hot but our humidity has been brutal for our standards. A couple weeks ago we had a really nasty day and I pulled up the weather station from Firebird and at 10am it was 97 degrees with 52% humidity and 122 water grains and it stayed close to that all day. I know that is nothing for folks in most parts of the country but for us desert folk, it was terrible. I know Alan talks about correction factor well I figured my personal correction factor was -20% because I got about 20% less done at work that day.

Lots of water and the occasional Gatorade. I usually keep a couple bottles of water on my work bench and replace them with full ones as the day progresses. I also drink a bottle before we go to the starting line and another one before the car comes back.

Tony did I hear correctly that Tobler is going to help you guys a bit? And are you doing Indy?

Pedialyte and Water mix usually one thirds pedialyte and two thirds water give or take. Half and half on the really hot days. I go through about 2 gallons of water and a 32oz bottle of pedialyte during a shift. At night before I go to bed I drink a glass or two of 50/50.

You should be drinking half your body weight in ounces of water daily under normal circumstances. On hot days at the track, you have to try and keep up that pace, plus replace what you are sweating out, which can be challenging. I do my best to drink a few bottles early when we first get to the track and make sure to grab some whenever there is downtime. I always make sure the tow vehicle has several bottles in it in case we get stuck in the staging lanes. I'll slam two or three bottles before I get in the car too and another one or two when I get out on the big end. I'll also usually have at least one 32oz Gatorade during the day too. I drink Gatorade Zero because I'm not a big fan of sugar, but gotta take care of yourself or it doesn't matter how well the car is running.

Pedialyte is the way. Especially when trying to re-hydrate say after a night of drinking.

Tony, did not mean to put the thums up icon on there. Was gonna put the sad face. argh Sad you guys won't be at Indy.

Lol. When I was drinking (close to five years sober now), I always made sure I hydrated while drinking. That way I woke up fuzzy headed instead of with a splitting headache.

Yes.....and no Indy for us this year.
look forward to seeing you @ BIR. it's been a few years since you guys have been there (pic is from 2013)
seems like an odd choice for rustoleum to market in MN compared to Indy, although both will air on fox national network.
