He looked terrible in the cockpit just before he got out of the car.
Heat stroke is not something you get over just by cooling down and drinking water. It can have long-term ill effects.
I hope Justin gets better sooner rather than later.

Hopefully Justin has/had heat exhaustion, not heat stroke, which is a far worse condition.

Hope he is ok too. NHRA.com reports in its article on his illlness and Leah’s win that she was driving the “Sparkling Lice” dragster. I hope that is a typo!!

Just thinking that Justin should probably not have been put in the race car for the final in the first place. Read on NHRA or Comp Plus that he was experiencing symptoms in the pits.
Please correct if not accurate.

True he never should have got into the car, and I wouldn't 2nd guess him, but he was smart enough to make the decision before they started the car that he should stop. Glad he did.

I know it must have been a tough decision to get out and forfeit after already being strapped in and everything. It goes against every fiber of being a competitor, but I'm glad he did. Better to live another day than to have a heat stroke at 300mph. I pushed myself too hard in the heat one time on a cross-state bike ride.....it's no joke.

Yesterday's heat incident with Ashley actually was a replay of the final round at the 1971 Summernationals in Englishtown 50 years ago !

At the 1971 NHRA Summernationals, Arnie Behling driving Bruce Dodd's new rear-engine "Spirit" won Top Fuel on a single. But the real story was the underdog
runner-up, Jim Harnsberger driving a front engine car. He beat Don Garlits in the 2nd round, then Herm Peterson in the semis. However, while thrashing on his
engine before the final, he collapsed from heat exhaustion.

A good reminder of what the heat can do. I live in B.C. and our recent heat wave (that reached 106 degrees in my city and as high as 120 in one town) killed almost
600 people just in our province.

What if. Justin is pushed to the fireup area and “Sparkling Lice” is a no show. Wouldn't Justin have to fire and stage to take the green for the win?

NHRA probably would not have allowed to Justin fire up with a health problem that could cause serious consequences. They probably would've run the final the next day.
Here's an idea, how about a backup driver for Justin in order to complete the event? Was Austin Prock on the property? How about Alex Laughlin and let him get some seat time since he's going Top Fuel.

Say what, your post does not make any sence. If you can't make the next round or final they (The NHRA) isn't going to postpone your
race till the next day. We would be there for days trying finish a race. Once you start going rounds on race day you can't just
screw in another driver cause you don't feel good or you have a appointment at the beauty parlor.
Clay's deal was during qualifying. And Prock had to qualify the car to make the show.

You are correct in your analogy. I was just trying to add a little humor to the situation.

I am glad he was thinking with his head instead of his ego or wallet.
And my hat is off to his sponsors for their support as well.
And as for sportsmanship, very cool.

I am a person who suffers from dehydration so I know how Justin felt. One of the things people need to understand about dehydration is water is not the answer to being hydrated. It helps but you also need to stay away from soft drinks and drink something that has electrolites in it like Gatoraide., etc.

The driver has to qualified in the same car that he races. Austin Prock had to get qualified in Millican's car before he could drive it during eliminations. You can't just put someone in the seat at the last moment. At least that's how I see it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
