May 4, 2007 - MADISON, IL--Matt Hagan and crew arrived at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, IL early this morning to prepare to compete in the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals this weekend.
Coming off a successful weekend in Atlanta where Hagan qualified in the top half of the field and took down a first round victory before being knocked out with electrical problems in the quarterfinals, Matt and crew have high hopes for this weekend.
"It's been an uphill battle for us this year so far," admits Hagan, "but we feel like we've made progress every week since we switched cars after the Gators. "
Hagan and crew have been fighting a jam-packed schedule, staff changes, and an under-tested race car since abandoning their primary vehicle after the
first race of the season.
"Our times have been getting consistently better in this car, and we're poised right now to break into the top of the field," explains Hagan. "We need a solid performance this weekend to maintain our momentum."
Hagan will have his work cut out for him this weekend as last weekend's field of AMS Pro Modifieds was the quickest field on record and Joshua Hernandez has won three AMS events in a row. "The level of competition in AMS was unbelievable last year," said Hagan. "We thought we got a good initiation, coming in on our rookie season last year and doing as well as we did. But last year is nothing compared to this year. It's going to take everything we've got to compete with these racers."
AMS Pro Mod qualifying begins at 3:30 PM on Friday, continues on Saturday, and elimination rounds start on Saturday at 4:00 PM. Log on to ww.NHRA.com
