Did you guys hear the same as me? Whatever happened to working with the guy and coming up with a better solution? I didn't realize we had so many cars lining up to qualify that we can send letters saying don't bother coming to anymore races this year. It shows just what everybody has said the last couple of years. The command structure at NHRA is totally out of control.

I heard that as well. It apparently was centered around a spark plug guards and wires being a safety violation.

Yup... Thanks Terry for filling our fields all year and sticking it out when the chips are down......But since Vegas and Pomona have enough cars, time to park it.

He ran 4.0's and 3.90's clean and dry most of the year and now he's had a string of bad luck, which sucks, but man.. kick a guy when he's down.

This really upsets me.

It has been nice for ESPN to give him some coverage though. He has been shown a lot on the events, qualifying, and even NHRA Raceday lately.

Yep, he's done. They aren't allowing an appeal either. Guaranteed if they were going into some races with short fields this wouldn't even be an issue.

Who in the f!#k are holding the decision makers out there accountable, anyway? It's been a long time since I've seen such a string of bad decisions come out of there in such a short amount of time.

Geeeeez.................

Safety is definitely a priority, but I don't think the punishment fits the crime. I can guarantee that if this was a big name team it would have been handled differently.

If that plastic tie strap had failed and a spark plug shot out and hit someone in the face or eye would you be so concerned? That is the reason they put those shields on there. I too loved the great old days when a spark plug would come out with the firepower of a .50 caliber bullet, complete with a tracer round. I remember pictures in the 80s that showed a spark plug lodged in a windshield almost a half mile from the track.

He put a plastic tie strap on to hold the spark plug shield -- common sense would tell you that disregarding safety is simply asking for a suspension.

He received what he deserved in my opinion.

i was going to ask if that was possible. if his actions could have led to spectator injury, he should be tossed for the year. imagine the insanity if a fan was killed by an engine part...

He essentially ran without spark plug covers. Given where they are aimed, that's a pretty big deal. Did he have a crew member go ask other teams and nobody would loan/sell him the part(s) he needed . . . who knows. It's a tough call, I can see both sides of the argument, but given who was put at risk... I can't question the decision of the sanctioning body.

You almost wonder if a member of another team called the safety issue to the attention of NHRA . . .

I'll lay odds somebody else said something and it's not too bright using a tie wrap BUT rap the guy across the knuckles. Now we aregoing to the west coast, we'll have a few more cars and who cares if the little guy makes the trip or not. Not bright on his crewman's part but total BS on NHRA again.

That's to bad I feel for Terry. I know he works hard. Hopefully he can regroup but i know it won't be easy.

Sure. Except tire chunking wasn't a 'safety concern' throughout the spring and early summer of 2004. Then we lost Darrell. Safety wasn't a concern when they allowed Tony Schumacher to make a qualifying run at Reading while leaking a few years ago. The NHRA's hypocrisy knows no bounds. There is a point and a place in time where everyone will say enough's enough. This is it for me. I don't plan on watching an NHRA race for the remainder of the season. Next year is seriously in doubt. NHRA management is killing this sport.

Surely it cant be hard to fold up a cover and weld some little brackets and bingo a spark plug cover . Or are those Diversatech titanium valve covers and spark plug covers mandatory?

Nevermind I just read what exactly has happened , he did have the spark plug covers but the strap was broken .

Gotta love NHRA,

They can't even fill a 16 car field in Top Fuel and they are throwing racers out on their ear.

Who cares if the fans get to watch a full field as long as NHRA can exercise their right to be RIGHT, and punish some one for something........

Good Luck to Terry Haddock, hope he recovers and NHRA will come to their senses.
