ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – Greg Stanfield wore a grin borne of frustration Saturday afternoon after his fourth and final Pro Stock qualifying attempt for Sunday’s NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

“We have been working on a different combination but we can’t get the car to run faster,” he explained. “We are still learning . . . but it is frustrating. The car’s being stubborn.”

Stanfield’s goal was to improve Friday’s quickest qualifying time of 6.532 seconds at 211 mph. He came close with quarter-mile laps of 6.550 and 6.557 seconds in the Nitro Fish Coffman Tank Trucks GXP and wound up 10th overall. His first-round opponent is Greg Anderson (No. 7, 6.517 at 212.53).

“We’re going to figure this out. We’ll be okay Sunday,” Stanfield said.
