That would be a good start. Maybe move the net up some in the sand trap and make it taller too.

Scotts chutes came out immediately as the body left.

The intensity of the fire either damaged them or just kept them from blossoming.

Tracks that cannot handle these cars should either be lenghtened or the racing reduced to 1000'

E-town is too short, at over 400' per second 2400' of shutdown is inadequate.

If the racing at E-town were 1000' this would not have happened.

I am speaking to this particular incident.

No, I tend to refrain from DUMBASS comments if at all possible.

This incident happened AFTER (that means........beyond) the 1000' mark.

What I am saying is.........get in and strap in and then you will know.

Now all I hear is the release of hot gas...................

It 's not Fact Rex. IT IS speculation.
If they were racing 1000 ' he may have blown up at 1000 ' , and at 300mph.

I always held my hand over the chute levers at around 900' and hit them at about 1200'

You felt the hit after the stripe.

the are wayyyyyyyyyyy more variables here than meet the eye, and.....oh yeah, I said THIS incident. Would NOT have happened.......ya' know, Where it did.

I think you better email Jim Head and offer your input, I'm sure he's waiting to learn something he does not know.

Like added crankshaft revolutions and strain and heat and load issues...............

Ok.. We already have 10 other posts going on the "what if" stuff with Scott. If we ask 10 people, we will get 10 opinions, with no end or solution.


At any rate, Del Worsham had a nasty crash in Pomona 2 years ago, and had this system been on his car, it could have avoided him going into the sand as fast as maybe not having such a bad result. Kudos to the Worshams on this idea, it is a good step in the right direction. All these little things like this can make a huge difference in the right set of circumstances.

I am tierd of hearing that 1000' racing is what needs to be done. Make the track 1000' and the cars will blow up at 900', set it to 660' and the will blow up at 550'. These cars are on kill and are not designed to last much past the lights if they make it that far. Sure, if they tune the car to run 1320' and you make the track 1000' this would not have happened, but how many crew chiefs are going to set thier car up and leave some on the track?

At the 1/8 mile event the IHRA held last year, how much carnage was there?

No, if something is running for less time and less revs, (they have rev limiters and 3.20 gears), no, I'm sorry, damage will be less.

and if they do let go at a sh!tty track the runoff is still 320' greater.

I stopped once w/no chute and had about 30' of track left before the end.

It worked once................
