First I have heard of a malfunctioning slide valve. I should have figured these could be a problem as they are crucial to fuel flow.

It cost Beckman the win in Houston last year, but it was much earlier in the run, and the opposite problem. It actually didn't take any fuel away, just the opposite way too rich and basically flooded it.
