all i want is BIR's real name back........Northstar Nationals.
it's ambiguous enough that any sponsor can use in conjunction with their own.

The 27th Annual Lucas Oil Northstar Nationals.........doesn't that sound nice!?

one company, Visionaire, did this for the one year they held title rights;
i don't think anyone has since.

some or all of the original national event names should be held onto
and associated with the rightful track. (i.e. gainesville - gatornationals).

where was the original supernationals? texas?

That's what I am talking about, keep the name with the event at the same track, whether it's the Summernational, Northstar, Keystone, etc...I guess I am old school but you wouldn't have the Winternational someplace other than Ponoma, I'm I right?

The Supernational was first run at Ontario Speedway, CA

Etown was too hot in July and May was always raining, June seems just right.

As for Summernational's stories, Saturday Night's 8:00, Last Pro sessions were great. After the racing, you had a two hour wait to get out of the parking lot, so the fireworks display by the fans was out of control. If you camped out at the track, it was all night craziness, burning the port-a-potties, burning track sercuity cars, bonfires and a poor guy who tried to jump thru a 12 foot wide bonfire and made it only half way.
Great times in the 70's and early 80's

To me Maple Grove will always be the Keystone Nationals, and I will also always call the last race of the year - the World Finals.

And back in the 80s how can you ever forget the Sweet Pungent Smell of Marijuana drifting through the stands.....

That wasnt me-it was Berserko Bob sitting next to me--honest! :p

and how about back in the day when the nieghbors would rent you out part of thier grass to pitch your tent on for the entire weekend. :D that was some fun stuff!

I grew up 30 minutes from Raceway Park and until I left for the Navy, I never missed a single Summernationals... or Crazy Eddie's Night of Thrills for that matter. Bottom line, I don't care who sponsors it, it will ALWAYS be the Summernationals to me. Larry Dixon has been quoted as saying that the most knowledgeable fans on the circuit reside in E-Town, so I guess all the "pungent smells" and "beautiful views" help in the education process, huh?;)

SS&DI Magazine dubbed the 88 Summernationals the "Steambath Nationals" and I couldn't agree more. Hey how about Johnny West knocked unconscious in the finals in 89 (I think) and making the "And They Walked Away" highlight reel with the crash at the end of the track? And who could forget the "The other side sucks". "You suck" chants back and forth. Eddie Hill pulling a mammoth wheelstand in 87, only to be rivaled in that years finals by Joe Amato. Steve Smith going on his roof in the late 90's. Man, you cant beat Etown for the history it holds. And yes, it should still be the Summernationals.
