Seems like everybody I talk to in the Northeast still calls the Englishtown National Event, the Summernationals. Now that the event has been changed back to the summertime, how many would like it called the Summernational again.

Englishtown always meant the "Summernationals" to me......I've never changed the way I refer to E-town.

me too. I still called Columbus the Springnationals while it was there. Sponsors jump in and out of events I usually just refer to the town that its in

I will ALWAYS have trouble calling Baytown, Houston.....and Ennis, Dallas. Grrrr.....it bothers me!

ive went every year since 1981 and it will always be the summernationals to me. the good old days, 100 degree heat in mid july, yelling across the track "the other side sucks!" man what fun times!

The Summernationals should still be held in E-town. How does Topeka get the name and their race is run in May?

To me the good old days are the years it was in May
John Force 5.01 -1993
Michael Brotherton 4.69 -1994
Kurt Johnson 6.98-1994
Larry Dixon 4.66- 1995
Al Hofmann 306- 1995
John Force 323- 1998
Greg Anderson 6.67- 2003

There was just something extra special about going to an event and knowing there was a chance the National Record could be broken, seeing tuners battle track temperatures over 120 degrees isn't quite the same. They should move this race back to May (or at least earlier in June).

Went to E-Town from 1984 to 2004, When the race was moved from July to May I was a happy camper, great racing and big numbers. When they moved it to June I E Mailed the track and said if this was to happen they had seen the last of my money, Well, they did and I havent been back since. I'm sure they still get 10 or 20 spectators and I wish them the best. Still a great event and one of the best races on the circuit.
And by the way, It is still the SUMMERNATIONALS:D

They moved it back to June because every year it was in May IT GOT RAINED OUT!

Ah yes, the famous "the other side sucks" chant. My dad and I would join in every time!

Even though I've never been to E-town, it'll always be the Summernationals to me. Similarly, Brainerd's event should always have NorthStar Nationals in its name, regardless of sponsor.

Jeff They Are Still The SUMMERNATIONALSto me..

Yup those were THE days... "The Other Side Sucks" we (Pit side) would reply "Cheep Seats"

You Gotta remember when the people who had a few.. ok more than a few Budweisers would yell any any good looking woman "Show Us Your T*Ts :D

And of course there was always 1 or 2 WHO DID to a rousing round of applause!! And how can you forget the 1 or 2 who would jump the fence and MOON the "Pit Side" and get chased by security :D

And in 1987 when a young lady had a little TOO much to drink on the spectator side, & was doing things that were VERY pleasing to the 4-5 guys who were sitting around her until Security again put a stop to it.... :( It was fun to watch through the binoculars from the Pit Side!

When it was 105 deg..... and men, women, and children were just hosing themselves down at the watering station, it was a 12 hr WET T SHIRT CONTEST if you didn't look at the FAT beer-Belly guys :)

Now-a-days the crowd has become much more civil, and you don't see the drunks making an ass of themselves for the most part...

And back in the 80s how can you ever forget the Sweet Pungent Smell of Marijuana drifting through the stands.....

Yup those days are gone forever!!

Only been to e-town once.

Beyond the on track happenings with Garlits blowover I do remember the chants back and forth and of course to my 12 yr old eyes the flashing left a mamory errr I mean memorable impression:D

John Panuzzo you nailed it!!!!! I think my puberty got jump started there:D
I really miss those days but not the heat.

After a few back to back years in the early 80's where it was 90 by 9 am-we refered to it as the "Swelternationals". I remember following a truck in the parking lot that had the bed filled with water-and a crew splashing around in it!
