I think Whit knows the power of controversy. I'm not sure his responses are not without fore-thought.

You've got to respect his resume, and with that being said, the intelligence required to build it.

Naz...
I think alot of anti Force has not a whole lot to do with his multi cars, but Come Back Tour 93... I've been a fan of John's forever... local kid done good type of thing... but 93 john made Whit sound low-key... Think he just shocked everyone by winning so many championships in a row when 3 to 4 was the norm... then it became anyone but Force... I like the multi car teams, always have... it's a business, to make money, and to grow. He did ask first before he put the second car on the track...

23 level elve

I couldnt agree more Naz. No disrespect to Tony P, but without John Force, we wouldnt even know who Tony P was.

I'll try to be exact, if I get too far off, someone just let me know and I'll watch the DVR tonite...
But something like this:
"I have to thank Don Schumacher [pause] for letting us race heads up because not everyone out here can say that."

Okay, the new "credo" on this board is supposed to be about respecting people and not saying about someone what you wouldn't say to their face. I don't even know what face he's talking about.

Has anyone ever admitted to diving, or has it ever really been proven?

Yeah, If I am not mistaken one time back in the 90's when Scott Kalitta was running for the championship, I believe him and the old man or someone driving for Connie was suppose to race next round and Connie just let Scott make a single for the win.

I still dont understand all the bickering about diving. Do I like it? No. Would I do it if I were a team owner? Yes. And in my opinion, your stupid if you dont.

Obviously there are 2 sides to the issue but I think Don Schumacher has tried it both ways and discovered the VALUE of letting the teams race heads-up. I'm talking about good will. From the fans to the team members to the sponsors, etc...

Scenerio: What would you do?

I'm with Justin on diving, I don't like it, but if it was my team I'd do what ever I darn well pleased (as long as it was within the rules & not bad sportsmanship). And yes if the situation called for a tire smoker, then you'd better darn well make sure there's batteries in the smoke detector.

Question:
If it came down to 2 drivers for the title, Force & Capps, and DSR had Ron racing Scelzi in the second round at the Auto Club Finals, John was leading the championship by 18 points but had lost to Bazemore in the first round, what do you think Don would do with this perfect set-up? Whit did his job well, what's left? What would you do?

I know, I know... all you guys would race heads up-----what a great choice!!!!! No seriously, I commend you all... you are all Saints in my book.

Anyway, so Scelzi wins the round, & then loses to Medlen in the semis, and finishes 7th in the points race. John claims another championship, by the slimmest of margins... and buys a drink for the entire DSR clan.

Brut's happy that John won, Mopar's happy with second, DSR throws a party, and Ron can live with the fact that whether Scelzi won the 2nd round or not Scelzi wouldn't have improved his points position... the teamates worked together, Ron can get over the fact that had he won 2nd round, he would have been CHAMPEEEEEEN OF THE WORLD!!!! Oh well, coulda, shoulda, woulda... DSR will sleep well at night and the JFR boys will be tossing and turning in their sleep, cause they won another title, made the sponsors very happy, got more sponsorship deals, more money, made history... AGAIN(sigh), and on and on and on... Man, how would they ever live with the guilt in Yorba Linda.

Oh, and all the Ron Capps fans would be ecstactic!!!! Again, the sponsors would be very happy with 2nd, instead of first which was within their grasp... they wouldn't want to be a part of the winning team, they'd sign on for 50 more years of good hard racing......... not for championships. Or better yet, good hard racing and championships. Heck who needs a championship.

I with you again Naz. Everyone on here for the most part will say, "its about integrity" or "pride" etc. And like you said, there all saints but if they were REALLY forced into the situation, there pocket book would be doing the talking. I dont care what they say. And to me, you still earned it. You put yourself in the best position to win, and now you can capitalize on it.

Whit's comments were right on......whoever wins will have earned it. That's how they feel about NOT diving. Just listen to the post Seattle interview with Ron. He agreed.

Don't get me wrong guys, I can't wait to see Ron win the Championship. You know that......but I'm not the one that would have to sleep with their conscience over how it happened.

All I am saying is if I were in that situation, whatever car I owned that had a chance to win the championship would win. Period. End of story. And as for sleeping at night, I wouldnt lose a wink, because I would know that I did everything in my power to win the championship. Which is what the goal at the beginning of the year is.

See, we CAN disagree without name calling and personal attacks!

btw, I'd be psychotic from lack of REM sleep. ;)

I agree that in that scenario it would be very, very tough to race heads-up. However, you could always pick out the most unlikely scenario to help prove the point. How likely is that scenario? How much ill-will is likely to be generated under THAT circumstance versus allowing a dive in an August first round match up? It certainly is not a black and white issue by any means. I think I would allow the dive in that case and hope for the best. However I think my overall strategy would be to race heads-up until that "just doesn't make sense" situation comes up. Then I would hope that I would be honest about it.

As a fan I would rather be informed than deceived. That is mostly how I feel about the diving situation.

I agree and you make good points... I guess all I'm saying is that you have a team to give you the best chance of winning (whether you're getting info from each other or a different strategy). My example is not likely, but not impossible.

No matter what though, the ultimate goal is to win the championship.

NAZ, I think we should start a team since we seem so much alike. You got a couple extra million?????? I could only wish. As for Kelly, well ofcourse we can disagree without name calling you dummy!!!
