Growing up in Tucson I used to go to the original Tucson Dragway all the time, still remember the phone number after about 40-50 years, crazy! The Fuel Altered Nationals were so cool, and the baddest A$$ cars on the strip by far. I will be there if I am not on tour. No way I would miss this......AA/FA baby!

I went to the Fuel Altered Nationals in 2005 and it must of been close to 16. There was 7 transformer-style altereds (this was after Ron Fassl’s crash in Denver or else there would’ve been 8) plus around 8 “nostalgia” altereds and a full field of blown alcohol altereds running a 7.50 index. That night made a huge impression on me at 13.

The last big AAFA event I went to was at Bandimere back in the late 70s. The first AAFA I ever saw make a pass was when my grandmother's neighbor took me to Lions (and OCIR) when I visited her for the summer (Simi Valley, CA). I was about 18 at the time.

We have an excellent 1/8 mile all-concrete track here and there used to be a touring group of fuel altereds that would stop here once a year. No 7.50 index; it was heads up and first to the stripe wins. Pretty quick cars; several of them made low 4, 180mph passes. The best sounding car was BBC powered running a really heavy load of sauce. Gotta love the unique cackle of a BBC on fuel.

Definitely a long shutdown at Tucson! Here is a video of my Cone Hunter running there in 2021. We were runner-up to Johnny West at a Chicago-style 6.00 index race.
