Anyone notice that the so called "live" qualifying shows have been recorded first round the last few races? What's up with that? What happened to the live broadcasts on Friday night?

Coverage ran long, didn't it? Perhaps Jim didn't record additional time.

This is what I was referring to. The Friday night qualifying is supposed to be live, but they're showing pre-recorded round 1 qualifying instead.
Jeff is right, the coverage seems to have run long and I didn't record the last few minutes. With ESPN I used to record at least an extra 90 minutes because the races were always getting bumped back by some random, obscure sport with 46 people in the stands watching live. However, to their credit, FS1 / NHRA has been extremely reliable with their times. Maybe they were just lulling me into a false sense of security, lol.

Actual coverage was much better on ESPN but the time slots are SOOOOOO much better and consistent on Fox. I can live with lower quality/performance (with the hope that there is room to improve) for the much better time slots. Still wish they would drop the live semi's. It takes a sport that is built on speed and excitement and grinds it to a snails pace for 40ish minutes of nothingness. I get the desire for live but unless they let teams swap entire chassis between rounds (which would raise the cost and chase more teams away) then it really dulls our sport down.

Hard to show it live when it hasn't happened yet. With the down time they didn't begin nitro qualifying until 5:30 local time, 8:30 ET.

It did run long. We actually pre-empted soccer! I've gotten into the practice of always adding at least an additional hour. You have to with the live format.

I just set the dvr for the replay show....that comes on on time

I agree with everything in this post, with the exception to the ESPN reference. FS1 certainly has improvements to make (after LESS than a year.....), but to say that ESPN's coverage is "so much better"? Nah........ The final few years of ESPN was about this much (I'm holding my index finger and thumb about an 1/8 of inch apart) better than an all out John Force Racing reality show. Couple that with the piss poor time slots, and it was almost a joke, really.
I like the substance, of the FS1 broadcast thus far. I think it jumps around too much (not showing all three classes in succession) and I agree with you that there is entirely too much fluff with the live semi format. But Tony has significantly improved, as well as the early-on elementary level tech stuff. And as has already been beat to death everywhere, the RELIABLE and very good time slots make it a no-brainer for me.

I can't discuss the tv shows because I have not seen any of them this year due to time restraints, but I have noticed that Amanda Busick and her crew have done a lot of filming at a lot of the behind the scenes events. They were filming about 20 of the drivers racing indoor go carts during the US Nationals in Indy and they were filming at the Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield a couple of weeks ago. I could be wrong but i don't remember seeing ESPN doing any of that. It seems like every where I go I see Amanda and her crew.
