Here's the exhibition race they should put on. Mix 4wide with the showdown

2 floppers on one track, 2 dragsters on the other. The rails and floppers aren't racing each other but it happens at the same time so it is the spectacle that they want. They end up with a funny car winner and a tf winner. Put some mad money up for grabs and run with it

Someone mentioned jet cars. Check out youtube. They ran 4 jets there last year
That is a cool idea.

Does anybody remember the Winston Invintational? Why is it that any NHRA Drag Racing event held in "NASCAR country" just seems to be filled with problems and eternally doomed? :D

I think if they took a vote later in the weekend it would have been different, but the leader of PRO was the most upset about the format Friday evening because his team was doing really bad to say the least. And it was the easiest thing to blame it on the format rather than the driver and team itself. He went as far as having NHRA move cars out of his "quad" twice during qualifying on Saturday because they weren't up to his "standards". If that team had performed well during the weekend, you would not have heard a word from PRO.

See that's why I find it hard to root for KB, because he's a big egomaniac who thinks his sh*t don't stink.

Anyway, I liked the 4 wide thing. It seems like I'm the only person who did. :D

"Marcus Smith encouraged by 4 wide success". I wonder where the sand was he had his head stuck in?

MARCUS SMITH ENCOURAGED BY 4-WIDE NATS SUCCESS

The thought that comes to my mind is the actual attendance figures (especially Saturday) must have been up. My guess also is that the benefit is actually being there to see, feel and smell it up close. That never translates to TV so the track owners are looking for larger crowds at the races...................

If I was him I would wait until next years attendance figures before expanding to other tracks. I suspect that many who went on Saturday this year will pass on attending next year. That's shaded by my intense dislike of exibition style in actual competition and especially 4-wide. I witnessed it back in the day..didn't care for it then, witnessed it last year and saw it on television this year. Don't like it at all and will not watch or attend 4-wide drag racing. JMO

Responding with opinion as well, a track having two races a year, it makes sense to have one traditional and one four wide. Almost all of the tracks lose gate with a second date. This may be an attempt to keep big crowds at two events ........

when the nhra tour races 6 of 23 times at bruton's modern facilities, i'd
say yes, if he is willing to finance a deviation from the norm, risk acceptance and profit; he can damn well hold a 4-wide nationals.
rest assured he and his staff are not drunk on kool-aid, 4-wide racing for points
may or may not return

It's not the track owners... It's nhra doin the dicktating.

paul, i'll beg to differ with you on that.....and i have no way of proving it, but
IMO bruton has invested heavily in nhra and wanted to try 4-lanes. I just don't
see the nhra asking bruton to build a 4-lane facility? actually i hope i'm
wrong on this.
building a modern facility with 4-lanes is IMO rather visionary.....whether or not 4-wide for points is a winner or not.
i applaud whoever thought of building 4 lanes; would be great if it was the
nhra - would at least show 'outside the box' thinking.

IMO 4-wide is not going away. I predict we'll see 4-wide at Vegas by Vegas#2
4_WIDE WEST"

BUT...will the Pros agree to race 4-wide? They just may tell him to pound sand regarding 4-wide. Deviating from the norm, especially towards the end of the points chase (Vegas-2), is not something racers will want to do.

YES the PRO'S will run 4 wide. You don't really think they won't.???

I think they want to keep everything the same as much as possible. To race 2-wide all year (except for Charlotte) and then have to race 4-wide at the second to the last race of the points chase, I think they would rather not deviate from the norm. Just one more thing that could interfere with their concentration.

At Phoenix there was a difinite track problem. Rolled TWO P/S cars almost excatly same. Did any one say "I'm not running, it's NOT safe"
No not one. Thats why I say If they'll run on an unsafe track, they for sure will race 4-wide if nhra says so.

Zappy....back away from the 4-wide juice for just a second and think about it.

If PRO stated..."WE'LL NEVER RUN 4-WIDE FOR POINTS"....and VEGAS 2 IS THE INSTRUMENTAL RACE DURING THE COUNTDOWN FOR POINTS.... what makes you believe SMI corp and NHRA would even THINK about making the teams compete in a 4-wide format at VEGAS 2???

I don't have faith in a lot of things in the world, but 4-WIDE POINTS EARNING LAS VEGAS NATIONALS in OCTOBER just ain't realistic.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE a 4-Wide BIG MONEY NON-POINTS two-day race happening in Vegas during the April slot for next year though... BIG SHOW CARS, NITRO NOSTALGIA CARS, PRO MOD CARS, ALCOHOL CARS...NHRA UNLEASHED CARS... that'd be a cool show.

Actually Zappy, that's EXACTLY what the Pro Stock teams told NHRA after round 1...
