That was the era when a corporate sponsorship was justifiably affordable to corporations. for 400,000 you could run a car. You could actually run one of these cars on a frugal budget for under a half million per year.

Interesting point, but the dollar is about 3x since 1980, so that's a ~$1.5m budget... Isn't that what I heard Head and Wilkerson (two current frugal operators) were investing this year?
