Five-thousandths of Second Separate Koretsky from Racing Sunday

MAPLE GROVE, Pa., August 18, 2007 -- "What do we have to do to qualify at our home track?" asked a dejected Kenny Koretsky Saturday afternoon at Maple Grove Raceway, a short time after his last attempt to make the 16-car lineup for Sunday's Toyo Tires Nationals.

He was in 16th position through the final session, until only Kurt Johnson remained. And Johnson came in with a 6.641-second run at 208.49 mph to KO Koretsky's best of 6.652 seconds.

Koretsky posted that time, at 208.14 mph, Saturday morning. It put him in the No. 1 position at the time, but it didn't last long because he was 15th at the end of the session. He finished the day a paltry five-thousandths of a second out of 16th place. The driver of Greg Hill's Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish, Ransome CAT Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt lives in nearby Richboro, Pa., and learned to drive at Maple Grove.

He didn't get the opportunity to improve his time on the second run because the bright blue Chevy shook the tires hard and went toward the wall when he stepped on the throttle on the final qualifying run.

"We had problems on every run, from breaking a new rear end on our first run to shaking the tires in the last one," lamented Hill. "When Kenny shifted from first to second gear on the last run, the car shook the tires hard and moved him toward the wall.

"It seems like every time we don't go down the track in the first qualifying round we have trouble the rest of the weekend. I don't know if we're trying too hard, but it's too bad we didn't qualify this weekend. We didn't get in at Englishtown (N.J.), Kenny's other hometown track, in June."

The team will be testing at Indianapolis Tuesday and Wednesday to find some solutions to their problems.
