Team Firebird news:

Hi All,

Normally at this time of the year as we are getting everything ready for the new season I’m very excited but I have to say that this year I’m somewhat saddened! As most of you know by now Firebird will be closing its doors as of March 31st 2013 and I’m saddened because I’m now preparing for what will be “Team Firebird’s” last season. OK now that I’ve given you my sob story it is time to get down to business and look at the bright side, we do have one more season!!

As was mentioned in the racers meeting a few weeks backs we will be running a 2013 season and “Team Firebird” will be at the 2013 ET Finals at the Strip in Las Vegas!! We have secured five dates in the short schedule that remains and for that I would like to give a big thanks to Chuck Sundstrom & Charlie Allen. Trust me folks, we got these dates and will have a 2013 season only because these two guys are true racers at heart!!

The dates are as follows and here is the plan as it stands now. We will award points at the first four events on the schedule and the last date (this event will be run alongside the 2013 Monster Truck show) is going to be our non-point 2013 National (& JR) Dragster Challenge and 2013 King of the track. This date will be the very last event for Firebird International Raceway and we felt it would be fitting to hand out the very last set of Firebird Wally’s on this day!!!

Team Firebird Schedule
SAT 12/1/2012 8AM – 2012 Team Firebird King of the Track & Charity Challenge
SAT 12/1/2012 5PM – 2012 Team Firebird Awards Banquet (Both Summit and JR Dragster)
SUN 12/2/2012 8AM – 2013 Team Firebird Points Race #1
SUN 1/6/2013 8AM – 2013 Team Firebird Points Race #2
SAT 1/26/2013 8AM – 2013 Team Firebird Points Race #3
SAT 3/23/2013 8AM – 2013 Team Firebird Points Race #4
SAT 3/30/2013 TBD – 2013 National (& JR) Dragster Challenge & King of the Track (non-points event)

Keep in mind that we are required to run four races to be eligible for the Summit Superstar Showdown. If any of our four points events are postponed plan on that last ND Challenge & KOT non-point event becoming a points race! Hopefully Mother Nature will take into account that this is our last season and stop punishing us like she has been recently!!!

In keeping with the “We are going to make this year’s the BEST” attitude of the track, we will not be charging a membership fee to become a 2013 Team Firebird Member! All you need to do is sign up. 2013 Team Firebird online registration is now open. To get signed up head to Team Firebird Online Registration , fill out the form, hit submit, and you’re done!!

Seeing that we only have four points races this year we are somewhat on the fence about dropping one from the overall points total. There is valid argument on both sides so we will let you decide! I’ve activated a survey on the Team Firebird site. A link to it follows. It should take about a minute to complete so if you have any opinion on this please let us know. We will go with whatever the majority decides. Survey

I think that’s about it for now. Just a reminder that the December 1st King of the Track, Charity Challenge, and 2012 Awards Banquet are next on deck for Team Firebird. I will have more detailed info on these events very soon.

Talk to you soon…

News from the Phoenix area- there will be a race on Oct 5 & 6, per a post from the old Speedworld crew on Facebook.

"Here's the deal on this event: NO timing system, flag start, FULL TRACK prep (not the old crappy Firebird prep.)
Then, on October 13, they will tear out the entire concrete pads and replace them, along with extending them back further towards the suites and further down the track 50'. Then a brand new Compulink timing system and nearly $90K PA system will be installed. They hope to be able to resume racing on a regular basis after mid-December. Some big races are planned, but as they are not on the schedule yet, I'm not at liberty to divulge them. Hope this helps!"
