I remember awhile back on the what we do for a living thead that there were quite a few purchasing people out there.

We are working on some Government contracts that require small disadvantaged business plan. As a small business we have never had a formal policy, I've just always looked for a good price at the quality we need and didn't care who owned the company, but now we are developing one.

Any insight as to how to find companies that meet the socio-ecnomic categories generally used in Government bids? I've used the ccr and have had a rough time finding many places that deal in the areas that we need.

Also any idea as to how one would use an HBCU?

Thanks in advanced for any insight on this.

One of our associate/sister companies back in the day was a minority/female owned company. I'll see if I have any old records on what was required. The majority of our company was bought out (THAT was one that wasn't), so I'm not sure what we still have on record.

Any of the municipalities should have a MWDBE area. The city of Fort Worth has a department dedicated to that. You have to be a registered MWDBE vendor to be on their list. You may want to call city hall!

thanks, I've been through them and they are looking for vendors. I guess we're just a little to much of a niche area its hard to find suppliers that happen to fit the areas needed, especially hbcu

I never had the time to submit in the "what you do for a living." I wanted to because of all the buyers that posted. I was a buyer for 21 years in the foodservice distribution business.

I assume you have check with the SBA, or the local SCORE office. I would also check with the Secretary of State's office in Michigan.
