[coverattach=1]ENGLISHTOWN, NJ (June 12, 2010) - A broken battery cost Pro Mod driver Rick
Stivers a qualifying position this weekend in the NHRA Get Screened America
Pro Mod Drag Racing Series event at the NRHA SuperNationals at Old Bridge
Township Raceway Park. The event marked the halfway point of the GSA Pro Mod
ten-race season and the first in a string of three back-to-back events.
Qualifying was limited to two sessions because of track delays, and while
both attempts in the Trane '06 Stratus started well, each ended with
less-than-expected results. In his first try, Stivers drifted out of the
groove and had to lift off the throttle; on his second, the launch and
initial performance were on-pace to deliver a mid-5.90-second pass but the
engine completely died when the battery simply stopped working.
"I don't want to focus on this weekend too long, because I know we've got a
lot of racing coming up in the next few weeks, but I really am disappointed
we didn't get in the show. If you can get angry with a battery, then I am -
but what are you going to do," Stivers said.
"Brad Anderson and this whole crew are really the very best out here, and
our equipment is second-to-none. But there are some things you just can't
control, so I'm not going to dwell on it.
"We fixed the issue, figured out what to do so it won't happen again, and
now we're ready to head to Bristol for our next race. I'm still very
confident that we can make a move farther into the top ten by the end of
this 'Eastern Swing.' We'll just hit it hard in the next two weeks - at
Bristol and Norwalk - and go from there," he said.
Next up on the GSA Pro Mod schedule is Bristol, Tenn. next weekend, June
18-20, followed by Norwalk, Ohio June 25-27.
