Joe you are ABSOLUTELY correct. If you watch any of those three you must be crazy. The only reasonable place for true news is FOX news and the only one to be trusted to tell us what is real and what is happenings is Rush Limbaugh.

I hope you all can see that what I just wrote is a joke. If you believe any of the above you are in NEVER-NEVER land. FOX and Rush are 'ENTERTAINMENT' plain and simple, nothing more, nothing less.

If I am not right there must be a hugh conspiracy between all the other news shows because they ALL tell it different from FOX.

I am also glad (to quote others before me)that this has been, so far, a civil discussion about an issue that could affect our sport in a profound manner. I unfortunately see signs that it could be sliding into a pissing contest. We (collectively as a country) spend so much time dividing ourselves on every subject, turning things as simple as a new stop sign into a shouting match between Liberals and Conservatives. How about we look at the facts, listen to a few opinions, do a little research, and come up with OUR OWN CONCLUSIONS instead of snapping to attention on the party line.
Rant over.....carry on.

Tim I didn't mean to twist this into a Political discussion, I was only responding to one's comments regarding Rachel Maddow is all.

Where to start . . . . . Jim, I'm glad you are "involved." You are clearly thoughtful and you've written much with which I agree. But . . .
Isn't there always a "but?"
Let's see, if you are counting on Rachel Maddow for your news you've got big trouble.
The history is a major pothole in your analysis.
There's Sarbanes-Oxley, the most comprehensive and repressive regulatory scheme since the New Deal; passed by a Republican Congress and signed into law by G.W. Bush. De-regulation? Jim, please read a newspaper.
The Securities and Exchange Commission had the authority to shut down Madoff but, instead, used him as a consultant! That was a bureaucratic failure, not an absence of regulations.
The Massey Coal Mine had countless safety citations and continued in operation. Is that because there were a lack of safety regulations or a lack of action by the government's mine safety people? Don't ask Rachel, the answer doesn't fit her meme.
Wall Street cratered in the wake of the mortgage collapse which was precipitated by government regulation (the Community Re-Investment Act) which forced lenders to provide loans to people who coudn't repay them. You know, and we probably agree, that the government's shortsightedness was coupled with out of control practices by investors to complete the perfect storm. Wall Street is the home of the stock market; not the whole of the free market.
You will recall that when the GSE Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) was scrutinized for its practices (see the testimony of Alan Greenspan in 2007); Congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts resisted efforts to bring Fannie Mae under greater regulatory control. You will also recall that the principal lobbyist for Fannie Mae was Congressman Frank's live in companion (his words, not mine). You will also recall that Fannie Mae was being "run" by Franklin Raines, an economic advisor to former President Clinton. Mr. Raines has retired from Fannie Mae, as a multi-millionaire.
Keep speaking up, and civilly, as you have. From time to time, your views may change. The truth will set you free.
If you provide better data and subject it to the proper epistomology; I will include that information as I revise my opinions. I will thank you for informing me. The more I learn, the better my opinons get. It's the fun part of growing up.
Cheers,
Ed
"History, it's just one damned thing after another." Harry Truman
"It ain't what folks don't know that's the problem. It's what they know that just ain't so!" Josh Billings

Have to agree with you Ed, we in the US have more laws and regulations on the books than any country on earth.

Gun laws for example, we have thousands, and every time a mass shooting happens, everyone squawks for MORE!!!!!

GEEZ, enforce the ones we got. PERIOD.

All Congress DOES is pas one law after another.

The Prez was talking today about "unfettered capitalisim"

WTF????????

I'm a capitalist, and I'm feelin' more and more "FETTERED" w/each passing day.

I'm not goin' to the right now, or the left.

ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THE FREAKIN' DAMNED LAWS AND REGULATIONS ALREADY!!!!!!! ENOUGH!

ahem:)

I'm not in a twist, no biggie! It just gets frustrating that somehow EVERYTHING turns into a political discussion, which never seems to be a productive way to address an issue...

The biggest problem in this country is that the minority is running the majority. All the bleeding-heart do-gooders have been telling us what to do, eat, wear & think for years. I say we're better off keeping our mouths shut about Nitro until they really get on us about using it. Then we can tell them that we've been doing a human study for the last 50 years and getting along quite fine, without their help, thank you! We're obviously a lot stronger than lab rats.

Not exactly.

Remember Saccharin?

The doses, that they fed lab animals to produce tumors?

I remember a guy, sitting on a pallet full of cases of the packets, and then behind him, several more pallets. Full of cases, maybe, half a dozen or so. Anyway, it represented what a human would consume in a hundred lifetimes.

they were dosing the rats with a THOUSAND times the equivalent amount per body weight.

In other words, if they want a substance to be carcinogenic?

They'll give the danged poor little things enough until it does.

And I'm with you about keeping our traps shut, but when push comes to shove, and I predict it will, sooner or later, they will produce the outcome they want.

Well let's see. If we can remain on the topic of EPA and nitro..without throwing personal political views into the equation..we'll keep it in the NHRA forum.

Otherwise..when you want to rant about your political views and veer off into things that are political that don't anything to do with the topic..we'll move it to the Political forum..K?

I do understand your comparison, Rex. Wasn't aimed at you.

I will endeavor to limit the "political" content of my posts, in future.
You will acknowledge, I hope that there is a political component any time there is the potential for government regulation. We live in a day and time in which the amount of water in your home's toilets is set by a U.S. statute. That means, of course, that there are few places not affected by "politics." As the number of such categories grows, we will have to ignore countless additional 800 pound gorillas in the room.
Sadly, politics will affect us and our fuel choices (see Canada). We will whistle past the graveyard to no avail.
My post was not intended to be a political argument, so much, as an explication concerning how unjustified regulation comes to be. Unfortunately, the decision to regulate nitromethane or prohibit its use in motorsports will not be made on the basis of facts. It will be made on the basis of politics. A civil discussion of that overarching fact need not devolve into name-calling. I have tried to avoid that myself as I have great respect for the views of others.
You have my pledge to be circumspect in future posts. Understand that I do this to honor and abide by the rules of this forum and not because I believe that avoiding the truth is wise.
Cheers,
Ed
P.S. The EPA is a US government agency headed by a political appointee.

Thanks Ed.

Politics is basically the issue here. EPA and Nitro in the same sentence and if we can keep it civilized when talking about it, and not start bashing the way it is now and the way it was then, we'll make it.

Well according to a well know P/S racer this would only effect less than one tenth of 1% of the racers in NHRA anyways so what's the big deal?

I believe a young fan got clutch dust in the eyes last year at E Town.
Then they had grinders etc. moved farther into the pit space.
It makes sense not to have any of that near the spectators, just in case.

NHRA ISSUES NEW PIT RULES TO NITRO TEAMS

Not the body placement, but the cleaning part smells somewhat of 'Big Brother'.

Why, after ALL these years, it comes up now?

Ahhhhhhh, probably just paranoia............;)

REX

wow - someone is starting to analyze paddock activities.....not good

the body deal seems odd, obviously someone feels the teams and their
possessions should have NO contact with joe fan.

The purpose of these new rules may be seen by the hardcore fan as an attempt by NHRA to diminish the experience of the racetrack. In reality it is a move to make both a safer and enhanced experience for everyone.

Granted, a body outside the pit area is cool. Fans can walk up close and see what it looks like first hand. What is not noticed is the other teams trying to get back to their respective pit areas and having to maneuver around this body. Same goes for the fans walking through the pits. They must walk around the body to get where they are going. Keeping the body in their respective pit areas eliminates any potential problems that may happen.

As for the cleaning of clutches. Some may enjoy the large cloud of dust that is blown about between rounds as a team prepares for its next run. Others, who may not be so experienced as to make some distance when they see this about to happen, may not want to go home looking like they were climbing in out out of the clutch can all day. Again, it's just safer, cleaner and provides a better experience for EVERYONE.
