Tonglet has motor trouble in Gainesville opener

As far as season-opening races go, put Friday’s Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Pro Stock Suzuki team results as something from a horror movie in broad daylight.

All the preparation made for the Amalie Oil Gatornationals by owner Gary Tonglet and his sons LE and Gary turned sour on LE’s second qualifying run when the Suzuki’s motor broke.

After posting the 14th quickest time in the first round, 6.958 seconds at 187 mph, Tonglet’s hope of improving his competitive effort was slowed – and his day ruined – when the motor expired. He coasted to the finish line in 9.083 seconds at 92.96 mph.

“It just let go,” LE commented. “That was not the way we intended to start. No one expected that to happen.

“We are going to change motors and do all we can to run better tomorrow.”
He has two more attempts to get into the top 16.
