CHIP ELLIS, Schumacher Electric/XXX Racing Fuels Suzuki Pro Stock Motorcycle: Qualified No. 8: After three of five qualifying sessions at the 54th annual U.S. Nationals, Chip Ellis is qualified No. 8 in the Schumacher Electric/XXX Racing Fuels Suzuki.

He began the weekend with a run of 7.218 seconds at 180.07 mph on Friday, which earned him No. 7. The Florida native was the No. 1 qualifier entering the Ringers Gloves Pro Stock Bike Battle bonus race on Saturday, which also counted as qualifying runs. Ellis defeated Matt Guidera in the first round with a 7.033/186.10. That run moved Ellis up to No. 3 on the qualifying ladder.

In the second round of the Ringers Gloves race Ellis suffered a red-light start after running a 7.061/186.69, giving Eddie Krawiec the win with a 6.990/191.02. Ellis ended the second day of qualifying No. 8.

"We're just trying to get a handle on things," said Ellis. "We're in the field right now and that's all that matters at this point. Unfortunately, I red-lighted in the Ringers Gloves race but tomorrow is a new day and we'll just take our Schumacher Electric/XXX Racing Fuels Suzuki and go out there and do the best we can. I think we can run a little bit better than we have so far. We know there's more in it; we just have to find it."

CRAIG TREBLE, Schumacher Electric/Albrecht's Fast Track Suzuki Pro Stock Motorcycle: Qualified No. 12: Craig Treble got off to a good start during his debut with Don Schumacher Racing. The defending event champion finished the first two days of racing qualified No. 12.

He recorded an elapsed time of 7.259 seconds at 178.68 mph on Friday evening to qualify No. 10. He returned on Saturday and improved by two-tenths of a second to a 7.052/186.67 (No. 10) and finished the day with another strong 7.057/189.52 (No. 12).

"I'm getting a lot more comfortable with the bike on each run," said Treble. "The Schumacher Electric/Albrecht's Fast Track Suzuki is really fast. We pulled the motor down pretty good off the starting line and the short times were off a little bit, but (crew chief) Steve Tartaglia has the power right in that bike. It was really ripping out there. It felt awesome in the middle of the track and I know I was on a great run. The back-half numbers were really good.

"I ran a 7.05 twice and I'm getting comfortable with the bike and, as time goes on, I'm going to get more and more comfortable with it. Hopefully we can squeeze some more elapsed time out of it tomorrow."

The Pro Stock Motorcycles have two more qualifying sessions scheduled for Sunday.
