That's an interesting article. What i found interesting was this statement
"You begin to trap people," Gingrich said. "As the campaigns get longer, you're asking a person who's going to be sworn in in January of 2009 to tell you what they'll do in January of 2007, when they haven't got a clue -- because they don't know what the world will be like, and you're suggesting they won't learn anything through the two years of campaigning."
Particularly when both sides acuse the other of 'flip-flopping'. I never understood why people see almost re-assements of somebodies policies as an abandonment and not as progress. Know what I mean?

I don't think 85% of this country will take terrorism seriously until it becomes a yearly occurence! Look at the loons who think the Bush administration planned 9-11?

We have to secure our borders to even think about fighting terrorism in this country. It is to easy for anyone to just walk or run into this country and blend into the population.

I don't care if we have to line up the National Guard shoulder to shoulder at out borders, we have to control the people sneaking into this country that want to destroy it one way or the other.

I liked when he pointed out that we defeated Germany, Italy & Japan in four years but today it takes 23 years to add a fifth runway @ ATL. It reminded me of my tour of the Hoover Dam a few years ago. The Dam Tour Guide informed us (and I don't recall the exact numbers) that it would cost nearly five times as much to conduct the research to determine if the Dam could actually be built than it did to build the damn thing in the first place! Politics and our (their) attempt to appease everyone rather than doing the right thing is ruining this great country...

Bottom line: Terrorism is VERY REAL and whereas I think about it each and every day, I refuse to let it control me.

Welcome to the Mater Bruce ! Yep I found out that you really can't afford to Ignore politics even on a local level.
On our old politics room I found out the State was going to intact a noise ordinance that would have outlawed open headers even in racing venues.
It got defeated because citizens got involved and got it done!
The same with a city ordinance at the local Kenedale Drag Strip.
We ended up with set hours that we can live with but it took over a year to do it.
I hear you about the borders but we are definitely fighting an uphill battle on that one.
Seems our elected leaders are not satisfied with giving away the national treasure but trying desperately to give away the store as well.

As for Newt I wish we could transplant his brain into maybe Romney who is likely the most electable.
I wish Newt could be at least at the elbow of the next President.
But we all know too well what DC does to good people unfortunately.
Whatever it takes to break the cycle of special interests running the country with the Country being the only special interest and the constitution back as written as the blueprint.
National governments only assignment was the preservation of the Representative Democracy with Tariffs on foreign trade goods it's only income.
We slid down the slippery slope!

There are many groups actively fighting to stop the illegal flow of people into this country, and securing our borders.

I can't post the links because I am a member, and my representatives in Washington (I'm from NJ) will come up. They're free, they will send you emails with links to your representatives when issues come up, and you can fax the reps for nothing. It simply cannot be any easier to 'get involved' to become part of the solution, instead of doing nothing but complain, therefore being part of the problem

Grassroots.org

Through Numbers, the average American has successfully influenced their reps in Washington to kill several bills that would grant amnesty to illegal aliens.

I have a simple solution to the long campaigns. IGNORE THEM.
That's what I 'm doing. I haven't watched one debate and I won't. I haven't made up my mind yet and I won't. Next fall, I 'll read up on each candidates positions and then I 'll vote. Simple.
If the candidates find that no one is paying attention , they will stop spending the money. And who really cares what they are doing now anyway. Or what they say. It 's irrelevant. They are so pitiful in the sophmoric game of gotcha they all play. And this goes for both sides.

If it didn't work they wouldnt be doing it. Ignore it.

Post of the thread!

It's way too early to know who the final candidates will be in the general election.

This is not to say one shouldn't pay attention to, or be thinking about, the issues that are important to them. Or to get a general sense of what the candidates are all about, as this can be useful later on.

Right now there is just too much "noise" while the candidates attempt to position themselves for their respective bases.

Excelent post Bob and good advice.

I can't help but sneak a peek once in a while but I haven't seen more than a bit.

Did listen for a while on XM 130 the election channel.

Yep XM has had 24/7 political election coverage since Sept.

That pretty much sums up what several people have been stating for several years. Unfortunately with our entertainment driven society, many folks act and behave about these issues as nothing more than another Hollywood production. Terrorism to some is nothing more than a Bruce Willis movie until something such as 9-11 occurs. Then a few years later some tend to forget what happened and how and why it occurred in the first place.

But what's really frightening to me, more so than any other threat of terrorism, is our society's attitude towards the election of local, state and federal legislative representatives. Many of these "career politicians" are much more interested in a "second or consecutive terms in office sucking off the government tit rather than taking a comprehensive, common sense approach to terrorism and acting on it!

I can't remember who said it but it's true? Symbolism over substance!

It appears to me that our Nation still does not get it? How many times do we as a Nation have to look at a hot horse shoe and still not learn or act on it? I believe that allowing the same mentality over and over again to "represent us" in all facets of political venues will be to our detriment.

Yet as a whole, society continues to re-elect and put these people back into positions of authority. To steal John Force's vernacular, "The bottom line is this,"

Electing politicians who are more interested in political correctness versus what's genuinely right for this country will ultimately be to our demise from a security point of view. The threats are real, yet most look the other way and expect our "government to protect us." The same government who issues state issued drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. The same government who will allow social security payments to illegals who have never paid into our system. I could go on and on and won't for obvious reasons!

Don't take my word or rant for it, do the research! Ask your typical X or Y generation mouth breather who their elected officials are and what they really stand for? My guess is they can tell you all about the Hilton's, Lohans, and Spears gossip, but can't tell you how many brave young Americans have been wounded or killed in the last 4 years protecting our country from the tyranny of terrorism.

AND THESE PEOPLE VOTE!

I'm the last phase of the baby boomers and unfortunately I will probably be around long enough to see the fruits of our political labor. And yes, I am very concerned!

Well, look at the big picture. We've got a government that already doesn't give us what we pay for with tax dollars when it comes to protecting our border. On what day does anyone think they will? Mexico calls us racists if we only want to protect our southern border as well as they protect our own southern border (Only because they don't want to compete with people from South and Central America when it comes to dollars being sent home to families). It doesn't seem like any government will shy away from lying in the name of playing politics. I don't think a Mexican soldier shooting a criminal near their southern border will go through what ours did. Get a frickin pat on the back, maybe.

The last I heard Islam is still the fastest growing religion on the face of the earth. Who doesn't think the wrong elements will position themselves to be at the top of that kind of power? How many times throughout history has religion been used to control people? We still have a lot of religion based laws that I don't think are in a Bible. I can't build a bar within 2,000 foot of a church in my home county but, a church can open up right nextdoor to a bar. I also can't buy alcohol in that county on a Sunday.
