Unfortunately, Ken, it's all about the money, and not necessarily money to get rich, but rather money to just survive.
This sport has evolved to a point where it takes RIDICULOUS amounts of money to campaign a professional level car. Ridiculous is a relative term, because I realize it costs much more to compete in other series of motorsports. But when you compare how much it costs to field one of these cars in relation to what the marketing partners can justify spending given the amount of exposure they get, again, it's ridiculous. Thus, it makes getting that money that much harder to get, which is what we've been seeing for quite some time.
When you consider all of that, diving, in certain instances, must be done from a business standpoint. It's not near as much about the pride of winning as it is about survival.
