i would love to show everyone my beloved 1972 'Grumpy's Toy, Pro stock Vega, that my dad assembled for me years ago, but unfortunately, as a child, during one of my many 'Temper Tantrums' i placed the car in the waste basket, as a form of protest, with every intention of retrieving it, once things cooled down, however once dear old dad noticed the car in the trash, he took it out and promptly stomped it into a million pieces, so very Bad idea on my part

I bought a 1/16 scale Oakley Scotty Cannon 20 some years ago. The body is still screwed into the styrofoam.

I have one of these on the shelf in my living room lol I have to sneak it back occasionally after my wife moves it

When diecast drag cars and muscle cars came out it unfortunately took away my motivation to finish my models, instant gratification, I didn't have to put in the work to get the car I wanted. As I get older, I would rather watch Dennis Taylor finish his hot rods, than go out to the garage to work on my project cars. When my grand kids get older , I will get out the unfinished models, and I'm going to resist being picky about how they paint or assemble them, it's a great way for kids to learn the parts that go into a car, before they help much with the real thing. When you glue and paint the engine components and other parts of a model, you learn a lot as a little kid and take ownership of the car build.

I still have a 1971 Don Garlits (re-do) in the box, never put it together. I'm "saving" it. You think Gorilla Glue would work better than the old glues we usta use waaaay back in 50s & 60's? heh

I started buying my diecasts about Y2K and ended up with about 80 or so by 2006, but I eventually ran out of room to display them, so I pretty much stopped collecting. Fast forward to 2017, our washing machine overflowed, and flooded my mancave, so I boxed everything up while the basement got remodeled but just never got around to putting them back out. In 2024 my cousin passed away from a brain tumor, and my aunt and uncle wanted me to have his collection to add to what I have, and I thought that would be a great way to honor his memory. I bought 3 bookcases from Ikea, a ton of extra shelves, and had a plexiglass cover made for each one to try to keep them better protected from dust. In hindsight, I probably should have bought a 4th bookcase to spread them out a little more and allow for some more cars in the future.

Hit your local hobby/craft shop and look for CA glue; it comes in different viscosity and welds styrene better than any glue out there. Crazy Glue on steroids.

That is a nice collection and nice cabinets also.

It's interesting to look at these models and see all those old sponsors that are either no longer in business, or "banned" like the tobacco ones.
