Did they ever announce why the Pedregon's weren't in Phx?

yup but even the drivers say....oh why bother

In your opinion it is not right. Apparently, you are in the minority after looking at your petition vs. the number of viewers/paid attendance at the races. :D

I don't think PJ is inthe minority. After the informal poll posted here just a little over 2 months ago asked the question about "do you like the countdown?" and the results were 90% against it, 10% in favor. Granted, it's a small sampling size (approximately 240 respondents) but to say PJ is in the minority is inaccurate, I think.

Mark,

I am just looking at the factual information I have, # number of people signed the petition and NHRA attendance/viewers. Based on this, he is indeed in the minority. I was just trying to get PJ back on the anti-countdown rant again:D.

Paul, guess what, I account for 1 in those nhra attendance/viewer categories but I sure as hell dont support the countdown. I may not approve of it, but I will still watch and attend b/c racing is in my blood.

Yall can come up with whatever you want to show how great the crapdown is, but its still the crapdown. I would be interested in seeing the number of viewers for the last 2 years from Sept to Nov compared to the number of viewers from 2000 thru 2006. I dont know how to do that or I would. I'd bet there probably pretty close, maybe slightly higher b/c of a few new fans each year.

Whatever the numbers are though, PJ and I and all the crapdown haters are still going to complain b/c we believe its a tainted championship (b/c it is) and all the people like you who think the countdown is the greatest thing since sliced bread are going to argue over it. Even if they dont wake up and change it back to the way it should be, still 10 years from now if we have this system we are going to complain about it. They just ought to rename the trophy to the Pedregon Funny Car Charity Championship and the Jeg Coughlin Charity Championship trophies.

Probably b/c no one knows better than them that you dont have to start racing until September now.

I don't have to wipe my screen over this one, but I sure had to agree with the thought. What was the latest comment, the Pedregon Charity Championship? I like the Pedregon's but I agree that if they hadn't gotten hot at the exact right time, (and slightly lucky) then neither of them would be holding the year end Championship trophys or Wallys or whatever they give out now. The countdown worked out for them vs. everyone else. Same with Jeg Coughlin in Pro Stock.

Just my .02c

we could sit here with "what if's" all night,,,,, what if AJ hadn't of ever gone to shumacher years ago, what if wilk hadn't of redlighted, what if austin coil had of turned down john force........ but this stuff did happen just like t.ped won 2 years ago and cruz won last year.......

I signed it and went to a National Event the last two years and listen to the audiocast and watched on TV... I still follow the sport despite it... I just don't give a rat @$$... heck split the Coca-Cola money evenly between the top sixteen teams as a season ending bonus...

Oh I like Drag Racing because it's NOT MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NASCAR, and any other league that's play-off is a third of the season...

d'kid

thanks Mark,

As for the tv ratings. Haven't found last years yet but from season one the numbers were up heading into the countdown. not only were they not able to hold that they actually lost veiwers once the fake excitement started. I can't remember the exact % now and if I go off memory and am wrong I'll get blasted.

2 interesting tidbits on the ratings that year. It included the rain out race at maple grove that basically never made it too tv during normal viewing hours, so the real numbers for the regular season were even higher. The c-down stats include the boost from Force's crash which had been shown on mumerous media outlets prior to. I was stunned the number of people I knew that actually watched part of that race and teold me that don't watch racing. I would guess the numbers would have fallen even more than they did.

In the end I guess we are stuck with those that win championships and those that are countdown winners.

Say what you want..if you go back and look at the pivotal races a few choked where they did not. And those two won the deal ouscoring mega-hit teams w/ triple the budgets.
Botton line is the record books will reflect their names!

GREAT POST!!!

You gotta play the game the way it's layed out. The Pedregons have mastered that. The goal of the playoff system is getting in. Once you're in,...then you do your damage. i still feel bad about Wilk not getting the title, but Cruz played by the current rules,...so he's the champ. Good for him.

Probably one of the biggest cost saving moves made by NHRA(or not made).........
MINIMAL RULE CHANGES!! :)

Another weekly whine session for some.

All the what if`s. If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.
