After running a fuel-burning roadster for a time, fast food heir Dick Stahl wanted and di go faster by joining the insanely tough AA/FD ranks in So-Cal. One night at Lions things got weird. His driver at the time was John Wilson. They had made the usual very tough Lions field. They were racing Shubert and Herbert.
The pair raced flames up into the lights when Wilson's Chrysler gave up in a major explosion and fireball. Wilson got the car stopped safely. Dick Stahls' sweet ride came to a rest, Wilson unhurt. The car was altered quite a bit. It was missing the engine, bellhousing, fuel pump, no firewall and it only had 3 wheels. Yippee, the fun of Fuel Dragster racing.
