At the 1969 Manufacturers Funny Car Championships at O.C.I.R. 2-day event, Friday night had Funny Cars and nothing else. 70 plus Floppers were on hand to time in for the 32 open spots. This happened on November 7th.

The gates for only Funny Cars opened at 5:00 with the gates for the fans (dad and I) at 6:00. Then from 7:00 to 11:00 it was all nitro Funny Car qualifying. Teams could come into the lanes during that 4-hour window and run as many times as they wanted to qualifying for their respective team. I think the final car count was 74. 4 hours of nothing but Fuel Coupes.

Think about how cool that was. They had a heckuva crowd that night at the "County." Every major league head was in the house, and that was just day one.

i seem to remember going there. Some of the cars had the "old" left hand drive chassis, but most had the center steer cars. One guy did a burn out all the way to the 1/4 mile mark. Nothing but floppers!
