i tell you what. i'm certainly not going to show up at the track with some rickety tow trailor and a '88 chevy 1-ton if i can afford a totor home or motorcoach. doesn't mean the racing isn't still about the fun.

as far as densham's article, i don't get this. drivers complain how the pay stinks and about how hard it is to land sponsors. well if you want the payouts to go up and the chance of landing sponsors to increase, NHRA can't stay at the "good ol' boy" level

In the early 60's we were to be paid $500.00 to tow our car from Burlingame up in Northern Ca. to Fontana. At this time our car held the 1320 record and was a rear engine car DF/MR Chrysler powered 270 in. motor. We towed all the way down to Fontana unloaded the car put some alky in it, warmed it up, reset the valves added some nitro and started to the line. We started the car and it began to snow. We shut it off and back it went on an open home made trailer. We towed home without running it or collecting any money. Oh, how I'd like to return to those days but, it's never going to happen. I have a lot of respect for Gary and the way he runs his lfe and racing team.
