Reported on the show that an air line came loose as to why he had no throttle response. Not familiar with the setups on the Nitro cars, but how does that work. Isn't the cable still operable even without the air???
There is 2 different systems people use one uses a bimba cylinder in line with the throttle cable so it needs air pressure for it to work so if pan pressure shuts it off it takes the air away and closes blades ......the other system doesn't need air to work instead uses a burst of air to unclamp the throttle linkage at injector
We use bimba deal on dakins car it is mounted right to pedal then cable from there.....on a dragster it is ok in the foot box away from harm I think on a funny car i would use the other system for fear of fire screwing something up and clutch guys working right next to it all the time but either system shit happens
While sad, he wasn't going to beat a 4.05 from the right lane anyway. The best run out of that lane in round 1 was a 4.10 and Cruz had a weekend best of 4.00 up to that point anyway. Even if he did manage to make it past round 1... and past round 2 over Bob Bode.. he still wouldn't have had enough points to get around Wilkerson. So at least he didn't blow anything up and potentially lose more points and a fine and the repair bill.
