Just browsing through the Las Vegas Review Journal and the writeup for the race says, "22,000" for Sunday's event. Isn't that down a bit over the Spring race? Just wondering as I did not watch the event.

No idea what that place holds, but I was sitting on the spectator side for 1st round, and that entire Pit side looked Packed to me! I was even telling Paul Flores that's the first time I've seen that there!

Comparing the spring event vs. this weekend, on TV it looked like a way bigger crowd at #2, in fact it looked jammed.

It was a zoo on Sunday. We were out of there by noon, and the isles were packed already. Friday/Saturday has large crowds too (from my perspective).

Something new was "the pit" no longer open to GA ticket holders. You could only go down in there with a reserved ticket.

Last year was much more densly packed. Sold out IIRC.
There were some sparse empty seats, but still very full grandstand.

Are you talking about walking into the pits ?

I was there thrs, sat and sunday, did not see anyone checking tickets to go anywhere but the reserved seats

Aren't some of us getting a little too worried about empty seats? Just sit back and enjoy the show. Let the folks that get paid by NHRA do the worrying.

That's a great point Rich. It's funny, but as a lifelong fan, I catch myself sometimes taking it personal if the stands aren't packed. I guess it's because I want to see the sport always moving forward. The reality is, there are so many variables that come into play, that promoting ANY kind of outdoor event has got to be stressful. Look at the different crowds from Vegas1 vs. Vegas2. Just the way the stars line up sometimes.

Reserved seats sold out..........:)
And yes, I noticed the ticket checkers at the finish line stands on pit side.

P.S. My first trip to Vegas was a smashing success. Beautiful weather, large car counts, won on the slots...............and oh yea, got to see the winners circle from the good seats!!!!!

No. There is a space affectionately known as "the pit" between the grandstand and the racing surface. This is from last year:

Compared to last year, the Friday crowd was WAY down. I am chalking that up to the COLD weather. Saturday crowd was better ... and the Sunday crowd was very good. 22,000 seems about right, the main grandstand has 18,000 permanent seats.
