My DVR picks up shows on the schedule with NHRA in the title. Recently, I started a recorded show styled as an NHRA event. It was, instead, a cricket match. Sri Lanka won, apparently.
I'm sure there is some media insider who will chide me on this; but save yourself the bother of responding. I will not be convinced that Sri Lankan cricket matches get higher ratings than NHRA events.
Oh, congratulations to the Sri Lankan cricket fans. Both of them.

Ed, I was just telling a fellow drag racing fan about the Cricket match I dvr'd instead of the Sportsman stuff. I was saying that I did watch the Cricket match for a while and I truly had NO idea of what was going on. Even the scoreboard was completely baffling to me...I couldn't even figure out the score of the game or how long it had to go.
And then it hit me....what I was going through trying to watch something that I had no idea what was going on, or how it worked, or how one scored, or what was the objective of a play must be what a fan who has no idea of how bracket racing works must feel watching a bracket race with no one to explain how it works. I suspect I would have enjoyed the Cricket match watching with someone who could hit the high spots and give me a brief rundown on how it all worked.

We must continue to work to educate those who do not have knowledge of our sport at every opportunity if our fan base is to grow. It's not up to ESPN, it's not up to NHRA, it's up to US, the existing fans and racers to spread the word and keep our sport going.

While I hope that cricket doesn't get higher ratings in the US, on the world stage it doesn't even start to compare.

Cricket makes CIC in Comp look simple. Pretty sure there is no such thing as a brief rundown.

That would have been the 20/20 world cup match and was probably watched by a handful of people (around 1.8 billion) in 233 countries

But seriously I look back at 1991 NASCAR on ESPN

They knew how to make the most out of that Asset, even with Indy Car & NHRA. You would think they would go back to what works.
