Connolly vs. Kenny Koretsky in CSK First Round
Dave Connolly Puts TORCO/Slammers Chevy 9th in CSK Starting Field

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Dave Connolly wasn't happy with his starting berth for Sunday's opening round of the Checkers Schuck's Kragen Nationals at Firebird Raceway, but that doesn't mean he'll be at a disadvantage.

Connolly's qualifying best of 6.660 seconds at 207.78 mph in the TORCO Slammers Ultimate Milk Chevy Cobalt was one-thousandths of a second behind Kenny Koretsky's 6.659-second run and it gave Koretsky lane choice following two different days of qualifying weather.

Connolly wound up ninth while Koretsky was eighth.

"We are a little behind where we want to be," said Connolly. "The key was we lost lane choice. We'll do the best we can and try to get down the (not preferred) right lane. We were trying some things that just didn't pan out. The track is pretty tricky when the sun is on it."

Over the years of racing at Firebird, the right lane has traditionally been a little slower for the Pro Stock drivers, hence the desire for lane choice.

Cool, cloudy weather on Friday produced most of the quicker qualifying times. Saturday's sun and warming temperatures slowed the performances.
