Connolly goes for six in row from No. 1 Spot

Dave Connolly's 6.725-second Saturday morning qualifying run was the quickest of the day and provided him with his second No. 1 qualifying berth of the season and the fourth of his career going into Sunday's important ACDelco Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

He goes for his sixth straight NHRA POWERade Series Pro Stock victory in the season's penultimate race and the first of the Countdown to One. Connolly takes a 10-point advantage into eliminations.

"This has been a pretty remarkable season for us . . . winning five races in a row and all," said Connolly, driver of Evan Knoll's Torco Racing Fuels Chevy Cobalt for Victor Cagnazzi Racing. "The team is gaining confidence. I have confidence in the team and feel like we have the best-prepared car. The last time we qualified No. 1 was at Seattle (in July) and we won that race."

Connolly races Kenny Koretsky (16th, 6.773 seconds at 203.34 mph) in the opening round. "It will definitely be an exciting day."

Greg Anderson, Jeg Coughlin and Allen Johnson are the other drivers with championship aspirations, and the latter two meet in the first round. If Connolly moves into the quarterfinals, he will face the Coughlin-Johnson winner.

"We have to worry about the other 12 guys, too," added Connolly, who also had top speed of 205.57 mph. "We are going to have our hands full on every run."
