A more dramatic way to win the WC could not have been conceived by the best writers out there.

A heroic accomplishment and an exciting way to reach the culmination of an entire season's worth of hard work.

I'm real happy for the entire Army team, especially Mike Green, as this is his first Championship of his own, isn't it?

I'm sad for Larry, but, he's barely in second place and had a great season, too.

Contrats to the Army team on a job well done. Tony's a driving machine, tough to beat and always consistent.

Two points out of first, even though this is the team's first year. Expect to hear from them bigtime next year.

Great job goes out to Tony, Mike Green, and crew. I am not going to lie, I was one that wrote yall off. AJ is god and I didnt think you had a shot in hell. No one else either. But I honestly believe Tony is the best driver in the class and you proved it this year. I believe they said Antron would have won it under the old format but I believe the best car all year won the championship in Top Fuel. Congrats Team Army.

Ditto. I wasn't taking anything away from Mike Green, per say, he was, after all, Lee Beard's protoge working on the Castrol Digger in the late 80's, but AJ has proven year in and year out that he's the man. Congrats to the entire U.S. Army team on a great season - you definitely earned it. That #4 qualifying run Saturday night was every bit as important as "The Run" was a few years ago.

Congratulations Tony, Don, and crew. I know this is not a popular opinion in NHRA drag racing but with all that's going on in the world I have trouble with foreign input in our country. Go Army!!

You do realize that a lot of those so-called Foreign countries carry most of our debt right? ;)
I think China is the head of the class in that department. The tides are changing thanks to our braintrust in Washington.

Super happy for and super proud of Mike Green, Tony, the crew guys of the ARMY dragster and DSR.

Wonderful job all year.

Do you have trouble with the European racers that visited us too?

I'd rather owe it to them than beat 'em out of it!!!:D

I give them all kudos. When Mike G. was tuning Tommy Johnson, Jr / Blue Skoal I swear I thought he had seen the last of his Crew Chief jobs. It seemed trouble prevailed at every 1/4 mile pass.

Mike turned it around and took care of business.

Mike Green is a good story in all this as well.

....I'm writing my column about these championships so I'll refrain from commenting here....however.... here is my 'WTF' moment of the year.

I've always believed So Cal drag racing fans were the best out there. They are knowledgeable, passionate and really appreciate the history of our sport....(for the most part). When Mike Edwards was brought up in front of the stands on Saturday, there was a STANDING OVATION. Seriously... NOT A SINGLE PERSON SITTING! It was a very emotional moment and it was great to be a part of that crowd.

When Robert Hight was brought up on Saturday.... SAME REACTION! Very passionate reaction from the So Cal fans.

When Hector was brought up in front of the fans... it was a very good reaction. Not the same as Saturday but it was a very warm reception.

When Tony was on the Full Throttle wagon... IT WAS EERY QUIET!!! i'd say about 20 percent of the fans in sections 25 through 20 showed their appreciation by clapping... ARE YOU KIDDIN ME????

Very disturbing to be honest with ya...Not the So Cal fans I remember from my over 20 years of going to the Finals and Winters....

Congrats to Don (For Running them STRAIGHT UP ALL SEASON LONG), Mike Green (For PROVING he could 'hang' with AJ) his crew and to TONY who proved to me he is 'NAILS'!

that second quote made me laugh

This is AJ's car, tune up and it is all him.

Mike and Tony beat AJ and Jason

but

these are both quality guys and quality teams.

These are the two best drivers who have awesome attitudes. They represent the sport as good as any.

AJ, Don Schu, Mike G, Jason M. are all class acts. Both teams started from scratch and did very well.

I know and consider Larry and Tony friends. It was hard to root for one over the other. For me it came down to US Army over an Arab nation. (Quoting Prudhomme at Las Vegas).

Both drivers and teams did battle and made it an awesome show for all of us.

Question

will Tony return? or move to Funny Car?

From Tony's FB page: He'll be presenting the World Champion trophy to Ft. Hood on December 11... That's a great gesture, Team DSR

Tim,

Thanks for the info about the fans reactions to the championship winners this year, and am very very pleased to hear how nice the reception was for Mike Edwards. They are a class act and Mike is so humble and has been at this so long, so I was pleased that he got it done this year and was able to hold off the Summit and Jegs stranglehold on the class for at least this year. I too was not upset with Tony and the U.S. Army Team taking the championship this year but I can believe the reaction since Larry Dixon is a SoCal homeboy and his roots as well as all his years with Snake had to be part of the reason that maybe more fans wanted him to win it than Tony again. Domination can sometimes be bad for the sport, although it seems to have turned out all right for JFR and funny car so maybe Tony Schumacher dominating Top Fuel will turn out to have the same effect with name recognition outside the fan base of Drag Racing. It was quite ironic that Spencer Massey and Snake were the team that stopped Dixon and the Al-Anabi Team from taking the championship. I've always been a Larry Dixon fan and I would not have had a problem if he had won it this year, even if his team is owned (mostly) by the sheik. They'll be even tougher next year so everyone who's left will have to step up or it may be a 2 or 3 horse race again next year.

Just my .02c
