Today l bought two tickets for a Beach Boys concert next March in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. The seats are FIVE rows from the stage, only $73 each. How much would you have to pay where you live, if you like the Beach Boys?

l saw The Who in concert in 2001 when John Entwistle was still alive, the seats were the fifth row from the stage - only $70 each.

it depends on which "version" of the beach boys are in concert. I usually don't pay for concert tickets because I have such wonderful friends in the business and they are so sweet to hook me up for free!

Suzie,

After years of arguments, for the last few years there has only been one "Beach Boys". The remaining members have an agreement in place which licenses the name to the band of Mike Love and Bruce Johnstone.

They are probably the hardest gigging of all the remaining members with a pretty packed diary, and the band they have together was very tight and more than capable when I saw them a couple back in 04, although they've dropped ex-Frankie Valli falcetto specialist Adrian Baker now it appears.

Brian Wilson now tours as Brian Wilson and why not, the man is a genius, if a somewhat tormented genius at that.

Al Jardine runs the Al Jardine Endless Summer Band and had recently scheduled a few gigs with Brian Wilson where they were going to revisit Pet Sounds together.

And yes I am a fan... we even walked out of our wedding to God Only Knows... We couldn't resist seeing the look on everyones face, walking back up the aisle to the first line "I may not always love you..." Although actually it wasn't the Beach Boys performing it, but a one off recording as a present, performed and produced by all our friends in the music business. I must admit Suzie, sometimes having the right friends really helps, although when I get into gigs free I usually find myself flying the desk for half the show.

Greg, check this out, in 1978 I paid 20.00 for Bob Dylan at the Akron Civic Theater. We were "highly" awarded with a stellar show:). That was a LOT of money in 78' but it was cool. My first concert was Pink Floyd in 1972 for free, Tammy and I saw Styx, Def Leppord a few weeks ago for free too.:p

Oh, dude let me tell ya..
One of my first shows was a Kiss show. On the same day the Pope was in Des Moines Iowa. Oct 4, 1979

You could pray to God, then listen to God of Thunder. I did.
At Living History Farms, I heard the Pope speak, and at Vets I heard Paul Stanley Shout it Out Loud.

I have seen most of em from my time.
Pink Floyd 2X
The Who 2X
The Stones 3X
The Eagles, Reo, Styx, McCartney, Genesis, Clapton, Garth, Kansas, 38 Spec, Moody Blues, Zappa 2X, The Dead, Van Halen, Foghat, et all.

My GF won a years worth of free tickets in 1995, (from a local radio staiton, KGGO95,) for every concert in their listening area. I saw one of the more rare concert tours that ever happened.

We saw almost 60 concerts that year. including a few mentioned above, but the most memorable, was a band named Boston (although not all of the original members) on the Walk On tour.

They toured twice, and I had the pleasure of seeing them sitting in one of the soundcheck target seats in Hilton Colosseum in Ames Iowa. .

Anyone else that tells you they saw Boston, I would love to meet, and I wish I bought a tour shirt that night.

Oh, I was also in attendance at Vets Auditorium in Des Moines when Ozzy bit the head off the bat.

Man and to think how much I bitched in '77 when my Fleetwood Mac Rumours Tour tix cost me $16! Only to fork out another $125 to see them in Vegas 20 years later in '97! Since then the only band I've shelled out that much for was the Eagles in '02 for $94. My Next concert is Alice Cooper for his Halloween concert here on Oct. 30 for $54!

The Who - Nov 2000 - Fifth row from stage - $58
Brian Wilson - Jan 2002 - $100
ZZ Top - Jul 2003 - Fifth Row From Stage - $55
Shania Twain - Feb 2004 - Fourth Row From Stage - $97
Joe Satriani, Steve Vai & Robert Fripp - June 2004 - Balcony - $55
Bonnie Riatt - July 2004 - Balcony - $52
Robert Plant & Strange Sensation - Oct 2004 - Fourth Row From Stage - $40
Deep Purple - Sept 2005 - Back Stalls - $53
Everly Brothers - Nov 2005 - Ninth Row From Stage - $103
Whitesnake - June 2006 - Fifth Row Balcony - $60
Journey - March 2007 - Front Row Balcony - $75
Deep Purple + Styx & Thin Lizzy - April 2007 - $63
Billy Connolly - 19 Sept 2007 - $60
Foreigner - 10 Nov 2007 - Front Row Balcony - $62

Old Crow Medicine Show -$18.00 - Standing up front crazy huge bar- crazy crowd-hopped up hillbilly music-best show all year.

Tom Petty also a great time $50.00

Mellencamp in Dec -$85.00:eek::eek:-up close 5th row went big for my brothers b day.

For Jimmy Buffett I have paid anywhere from nothing to $350. Nothing 3 times. Once in Las Vegas- thank you to Corona Beer for the tickets and 2 times in Key West. One Haloween night he showed up in Margaritaville and played and the next day he played a free show on Duval St. The $350 tilme was a benefit show he did at a college. The other 20 or so times tickets have ranged from $65 to 125 depending on the venue. Most I ever paid to see U2 was $160 for seats that were front row next to the stage. But on average I have paid probably a low of $30 back in 87 to a high of $95 back in 01 to see them.

Funny, the first concert I ever went to was The Beach Boys, a birthday present from my parents.

Since then I try to keep a "concert a year" going:

Stevie Nicks - 1998
Brian Setzer Orchestra - 1999
Meat Loaf - 2000
B.B. King Blues Festival - 2001
Heart and RUSH - 2002
G3 (Satriani, Vai and Malmstein) - 2003
Eric Sardinas (twice) - 2004
Journey and ZZ Top - 2005
Joe Satriani, Eric Clapton and then Shannon Curfman - 2006

Later this year I'm going to go see Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the prices to see most of them.

I'm sorry, but not even with a note from GOD would I pay that amount of money to see "David Lee Sock"!!!

Suzie, neither would l.

l've seen The Beach Boys in concert four times at the Newcastle City Hall, Nov 1966, Dec 1968, May 1972 and 1977. Early in 1972, the band hired drummer Ricky Fataar and guitarist Blondie Chaplin, two members of a South African rock band named The Flame. Captain & Tennille became touring backup musicians for the Beach Boys. In addition to touring with the Beach Boys, Captain & Tennille appeared on their albums of the period, including Sunflower and Holland.

l saw Brian Wilson, writer of the vast majority of Beach Boys songs. In January 2002 at the London Royal Festival Hall, his 10 piece band which included "The Wondermints" were the best l've ever heard, the voices and sounds were so good that the "Pet Sounds Live" CD/DVD was recorded over 4 nights and released in the UK a week before it was released in the USA, which was a first.

If you ever get the chance go and see Brian Wilson, you won't be disappointed.

I have seen all of the versions of the Beach Boys. My husband has opened up for them at a lot of festivals and they usually provide the backline for them. I have seen many, many great shows!

lol... "Flying the desk" Now there's one you don't hear every day in a motorsports forum. You sound like an FOH guy. What's with all the music people in here anyway?

I can't even begin to remember what I paid for each of the concerts I've been to. Face value-wise it was probably Elton John. We took a fallboard off of one of our Yamaha grands to the venue before the show for EJ to sign, which he did, in gold paint-pen. The idea was to auction it off at a charity event for the Oklahoma Aids Foundation a few months later. It worked out pretty well, his signature turned a $15,000.00 piano into a $50,000.00(ish) piano. I've got a pic of it somewhere, if I find it I'll post it up.

**edit** Found the picture:

As far as total cost, that's easy. INXS at Mandalay Bay about a year and a half ago was cleatly the most expensive! Let's see, about $85.00 or so for the ticket, about $200.00 for the roundtrip flight, rooms were comped at IP, $75.00 for the rental car, about $300.00 on gambling losses and incidentals. But it was well worth it! The show was great, the sound was great, the seats were great... it all made for a nice little mini-vacation!
