I've been going to the races since the '70's, and all this time I thought comp was short for competition. Who knew?

He was talking about what Alan said on the audiocast.....I semi-heard it, but not really.

Sorry, Alan! I was actually working and wasn't listening very intently. ;)

Comp stands for COMPETITIVE Eliminator!

I'll assume you're kidding Bob. As we all know it's Competition Eliminator,
as it was back in the 70's. Ask me how I know. ;)

By calling it something else on the airwaves, perhaps adds to the confusion at times, to the newbie fans.

I thought it was in reference to how the owners of COMP eliminator Cars get "COMPED" in Vegas, because of their High Roller play???;) Because they have LOTS OF MONEY... But then I thought about it, and many of them SPEND BIG TIME CUBIC $$$$'S to go FAST!

I love COMPETITION ELIMINATOR!!!! I want to race it just to win the world championship and get the cool "MOTORCYCLE" #1 PLATE!!!!:p BTW, anyone know who Started this Tradition? (my over under is within 45 mins I will get a correct answer)

It stands for blood, sweat, tears, innovation, competition, comradery, variety and, after that, maybe a few $ somewhere in there.:)

I'm a "newbie" to Comp but what about that Fletcher!!!
.718 under & #1 after day 1!!!
:D:D:D

Mr. Jean,

Yep, I know Competition Eliminator is the actual name, but anyone that studies the category will agree that it is very COMPetitive, if not sometimes COMPlicated.
For any TRUE gearhead, a day in the Comp pits is usually equivalent to a day @ Disneyland. Do some fans miss out, sure they do, but like that bearded gent from Illinois once said "You can't please all of the people, all of the time."

For sheer innovation, ingenuity, hard work and determination, Comp is where it's AT!
Where else can you see B-I-G V8's running against little 4 cylinder machines?Or catch an inline 6 matched up against a V6?
And those powerplants can be blown, carbed, or injected and in dragsters (both front and rear engined) roadsters, altereds and door cars.
Ah yes, COMPetitive Eliminator,

Way Cool in my book,

Unk

Now even I'm confused-LOL

I've mentioned this one particular race before, but I still say one of the single coolest individual races I've ever seen was at a Lucas Oil divisional at Woodburn back in 2001. Dennis Radford was driving a nitrous injected pro-mod dodge viper with a 7.07 index, qualifying about .450 under. In the other lane was Brian Hyerstay driving a volkswagon powered G-dragster with an index of 10.06 but was at the top of the qualifying sheet at nearly .800 under. Hyerstay cut a .060 light, while Radford having to wait 3 seconds, cut a perfect light. The VW dragster was only running about 130 mph toward the top end as the viper closed in at over 210 mph. Trying to save himself from some CIC, Hyerstay ended up lifting a little too early as Radford snuck around him by .056 seconds.
