Las Vegas - Clint Thompson reminded the who’s who in Top Alcohol Funny Car racing that he’s a force to be reckoned with at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Las Vegas. Clint qualified fifth in a field that has become one of the most difficult fields to qualify for nationally. Clint secured his place in the eight car field with a 5.65 at 255 MPH
In round one, Clint took on the number 4 qualifier, Steve Gasparrelli. At the light Gasparrelli got off of the line first but got badly out of shape and scraped the wall. Meanwhile, Clint bettered his qualifying time with a strong 5.62 at 256 MPH to advance to the semi finals.
In the semis, Clint took on one of east coast’s biggest stars, Tony Bartone in what would be a re-match of the final round in Dallas. As the lights came down Clint was off the line first with an 0.039 to Bartone’s close 0.044. But then Clint suffered some extreme tire shake and idled through the finish line. Bartone, had engine problems but still managed to grab the win with a 6.04 at 232 MPH.
Clint now moves on to NHRA Finals for the last national event of the 2012 season.
