Changes at SPEED TV

Re: Chenges at SPEED TV

This has been known for some time now.

It's one of the reasons you see the "Fox Sports" logo in combination with the Speed logo, which will be going away fairly soon.

Sad day indeed. :( One of the primary reasons I got cable was to recieve this channel.

I sent a letter of complaint off to Fox, and got a trite form letter back about "Fox Sports will continue to offer plenty of motorsports content, while adding exciting new content from a variety of other sports. We hope you enjoy the new..... blah blah blah blah,........"

It was promptly filed in the circular cabinet.

Re: Chenges at SPEED TV

Anyone Know anything about the "Velocity" he mentioned in the article?

Re: Chenges at SPEED TV

Here in the NE PA area, Velocity is offered by Verizon Fios on Ch 631. I'm pretty sure that Comcast carries it as well.

Velocity

Lots of good automotive programming along with some other stuff that I don't really watch.

Sad to see Speed TV go away, I used to watch a lot of programming on there.

Re: Chenges at SPEED TV

I have to go up a tier to get Velocity, but I'd be getting some other channels I'd like, so I'm seriously considering it.

Remaining Speed programing will probably go over to "Fuel TV" (Dish network 398) after 2014 Super Bowl which seems to be on the newly debuting Fox Sports 1 (formerly Speed) ;)

I doubt Fuel will pick up any car stuff, Fuel was primarily a surfing/skateboarding/ snowboarding channel but has resently become dedicated to the UFC, but I know you knew that. It would be great if they did.

Velocity is OK, but nothing like Speed, after having been involved with the "reality" performance car TV buisness I am not suprised it is over.

Nothing lasts forever.................... it was a great run ............... stick around,ya just never know.

There is ZERO chance the Super Bowl in 2014 will be on Fox Sports 1. The NFL TV contract requires their network partners to air the Super Bowl on over-the-air (free) TV channels (the reason the Super Bowl is on ABC instead of ESPN). Secondly, the networks themselves want the Super Bowl on their main networks because it is the highest rated TV program every year, thusly generating the most ad revenue. Lastly, if it is going to be buried on a deep cable channel, it would be the NFL Network, strengthening their position in their wars with cable/satellite operators to get on their basic lineups (the REAL reason for a Thursday night game every week this season). And the NFL would keep all of the revenue if they aired the biggest TV event of the year on their own network, versus sharing with any other TV network.

As already mentioned Fuel TV is an extreme sports channel, doubtful they are looking to pickup motorsports, doesn't fit the target audience.

Velocity is part of the Discovery Channel family of networks, newly minted National Event announcer Bill Stephens has/had a few shows on the network, Chasing Classic Cars is a cool show and they show same day WRC highlights. Bill himself has discussed the channel and shows on this board.

EDIT: I believe when the re-branding of SPEED to FS1 was announced, they are going to keep a healthy percentage of their NASCAR programming, including practice. F1 has moved to NBC Sports Network (nee Versus). The new FS1 network will need content, so they may not be looking to offload as much motorsports as people think.

Uhh...a chunk of motorsports content to Fuel TV seems most assured, maybe Super Bowl on straight Fox? Good Luck ;):)

I get Velocity on Direct TV. It's got a lot of car show, it's a decent channel.

Thanks for the info!

The article speculates the conversion of Fuel TV to an all motorsports channel, that makes more sense than combining content, though the article was clearly speculating, and was from last April.

The Super Bowl rotates between all of the NFL's broadcast partners, so no one should be surprised it is on Fox in 2014. There is just no chance of it being on any of Fox's cable channels, just as there is no chance of ABC putting it on ESPN for instance.

Fox is most likely going to have another channel come into play soon as well. Fox Soccer Channel is losing their rights (to NBC Sports) to the English Premier League starting this fall. The thought is the remaining rights they have, such as the UEFA Champions League, and Europa League, are not enough to fill a dedicated soccer channel. There have been a couple ideas of what to do with that outlet, one being FX2 a sister channel to FX. The thought is though that if the cable/sat companies balk at at this and it would become an additional Fox Sports channel. Only time will tell.
