This was wild! Was kinda astonished they were able to get the back up car ready in time. Even with semi final finish, he's still gettin' the points. "Texas boys, we just keep on going."
The driver and team truly showed what they are made of today . Terrible crash, then get the back up car ready to go in short order and run a 3.72 while also blowing it up. If there is an award for most amazing performance by a team this gets my vote x 100. Amazed he walked away and passed medical evaluation. Rooting for these guys to win the Championship for sure.
kinda weird.....rear tire blows...in left lane....car splits in two... hits the left wall....in Texas....10 years to the race.....crashed car ends up being the winner...
glad he had no injuries
It's cool that they did that, but I thought a back-up car could not be brought out during eliminations, only during qualifying. Or is that rule not in effect during the countdown?

They changed the rule this year and I didn't know they'd changed it. It used to be you could bring out another chassis in qualifying but not in eliminations. Now you can bring out a backup chassis that hasn't been run in qualifying or eliminations.
Steve is the man.....the crew is bad ass....i was working on billy's car none of us knew the rule changed when we found out we had the spare car on the door by the time they got back.....built a top fuel car in 33 minutes....broke camshaft in the semis had nothing to do with second round just parts failure.....one of the craziest days at the track for me ever and I have had a few
Apparently they couldn't use Billy's car since it had already run in competition or parts off of crashed car. Reminds me of Dale Eardhardt yanking a NASCAR official out of his wrecked car so he could continue in a race. CAPCO team and driver are BADASS!

That was a terrible crash. Thank goodness for all the additional padding and seat inserts that has been added over the years.
I didn't know the rules had changed ether. I bet all the teams between now and Vegas will get their back up cars a little closer to being ready to go for situations like this.
