I didn't know the rule had changed either but I like it. Although I would rather see any car being allowed to get back in. In Steve's case, being able to hop into his Dad's car, that was fully ready to go, would have been a safer option then rushing to get a backup ready. Remarkable job to the team for getting it ready, I was expecting it to smoke in the first 100feet.

NHRA is suppose to be professional and nobody knew about this rule, like it was said before every pro team will have backup ready to go. Hey Alan did you know about this rule ?
Wonder if it will be repealed ?

That would give the multi-car teams even more advantages than they already have

It is the first time someone has used 2 cars in the same day in eliminations. However, V. Gaines was able to run a different car during Charlotte round 2 in Dallas in 2014 after crashing in Charlotte round 1 in Charlotte.

I like the rule. If a team needs to use the rule it means they won the race. This is drag racing not oval. Getting the win light is all that matters.

I don't think it's a huge deal, how often is it really going to be a factor, where a racer wins a round while also experiencing catastrophic failure that destroys a car beyond repair?

i always worry about those open canopies when frame members break into pieces.......damn, these chassis sure are built
well ......still can't believe how fast the car turned left. it couldn't have hit the wall much more than 50'-150' past the
1000' finish line.....and then the boomer at the line in next round. another in a string of major explosions lately

Best they could figure it was just on the rev limiter put a hole out but that was it......the motor still turned
when we got it back later it banged the blower after the tire came off and over revved

I wonder how bad it would have been if he was in the other lane.

Amazing job by the Capco team getting Steve ready for the next round.

Like the "Steve -O" on the backup car.

They said the rule was changed this year. When? Was it before the start of the season or another "the ink is never dry" policy manual "lets see who is involved" change?

How about we just invent the "brass b@lls award" for 2017 and give it to stevie, and his crew for pulling that off?... and while were at it, stop pretending that any serious racer in tf or fc doesnt show up with at least one back up ready to go in the trailer? If you dont show up with 8 blocks, 10 sets of heads and 6 superchargers the past 10 years to a national, may as well stay home

Steve, Mr and Mrs Torrence deserve to win this whole thing, theyve dedicated the resourses and love into this sport, and I hope they do, thank baby jesus the rules allowed them to try and win the semis/race, that would have been awesome, btw, I believe they made history being the only team to bring out a new chassis in eliminations , ever, and they were prepared to make it happen.... good on bobby, dom, hoagie, prichett, and the boys

That was determination for sure after the crash! Glad to see Steve jump right out of the car, Hands in the air! and congrats to Steve Mcteam! Can I trademark that name? Lol

Just wait until lets say Terry Haddock wins first round and wads his up. Has no spare. Schumacher says hey you have a car in the points deal next round..Here's Antron Browns spare complete with tune up. Go beat him or her. Cant think of any other series that allows back ups once the race started. Maybe F1 if lap one hasn't been completed if i remember right. But that whole F1 thing is a mess. But I will say this It was awesome to see the Capco bunch pull that off. Amazing show of teamwork and discipline. And I would have done the same thing if I was in his shoes given the rule as it currently is. Just dont agree with the rule.

What happens when say, a Flopper has body damage and a competitor that got eliminated offers his body or part of like a roof.
