As a current Pontiac owner and life-long GM guy, I'd like to know why they are leaving if this is true. Surely it can't be because of NHRA's change of venue. C-Bus is a legendary track that has not kept pace with the times. Norwalk will be a better deal for the teams and fans - certainly a better place to promote Pontiac Motorsports. GM needs a presence in drag racing and Pontiac needs the Pontiac Excitement Nationals.

The original rumor said all GMC support vehicles could be withdrawn from NHRAs use. I don't know if they will go that far but I'm sure Tommy Boy can make a better deal with Isuzu anyway.

However, where did you hear this? I looked on NHRA.com, Comp Plus, DRO. Nothing....

If NHRA starts using 350s, the Safety Safari will never get the track cleaned!! Need some good Dodge Rams, Cummins Diesels. Drags my wagon down the road very nicely.
Hate to see Pontiac leaving anything though. There has to be a reason and the timing is just coincidental to NHRA moving the race to Norwalk.

Just a guess......But I wouldn't be suprised if GM's financial woes don't play into this?
I would guess you're right, Joe. If it's true, Pontiac is missing a great opportunity in the Detroit/Toledo/Cleveland market, especially with them being GM's "Performance Division".
I thought that the reason for all of this was because they weren't consulted at all when the NHRA decided to move the Columbus race to Norwalk.
I can kind of understand Pontiac's (GM Racing's) point. I mean after all they were the title sponsor of the event. One would think that someone from the NHRA would have thought that GM should have had some input or at the very least let them know about it.

For some strange reason, they seem to be getting a kick out of surprises?
Pro Stock Trucks?
Mandatory Tire changes?
Welfare inspired points system?
Moving tracks out from under major sponsors?
What's next? or What are the chances one of their upcoming surprises will actually benefit the NHRA, Racers or the Sport.

From a company's view there may have been specific reasons they were the title sponsor at Columbus as opposed to other locations. It may have been in a region that met what ever specific targets they were trying to reach. You have to keep in mind Columbus is right in the middle of Ohio, which probably pulled pretty decent numbers from southern Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia markets. Now that the venue will be 2 hours further north, they may be anticipating a potential loss in reach from those markets. At the very least there will be some change in the demographic, which may not fall in line with their expectations/goals from when they first signed on as the title sponsor.
Regardless, it's insane that the NHRA didn't at least consult with them first, even if they were hell bent on making the change. I still find it hard to believe that they wouldn't have. Pontiac being the customer, you at least make them feel important enough to discuss the matter with them and let them air their support or lack there of regarding the change. It may just be a case where the move really is not a big deal for Pontiac, but since they were not at least advised of it, they felt their place in the sport was insignificant, and therefore why should they put their money into it, especially when they are so strapped?
