So the weather is the story of this event so far. It is very possible that the fields are set, as tomorrow may be a washout. Antron's only qualifying run was DQd? Any info on the cause? If we go into Sunday without any more qualifying rounds, is he out of the show because he technically doesn't have a run? Or will he be #14?

Terry McMillen was DQ’d for hitting a block in 2015 at Maple Grove in the only qualifying session, and it was a short field just like this. Terry was not allowed to run first round. He was the 15th car, and they only ran 14 cars on Sunday.

AB’s DQ had to do with wing angle as I understand.

My opinion is that Antron would not be allowed to run Sunday if tomorrow was washed out simply for the fact of keeping things consistent.

Now, I’m not saying I agree or disagree with any of it, but the precedent has been set.

Hopefully they get both runs in tomorrow and it’s a non issue.

As Antron's run was disqualified it is considered as if he never made a run. Regardless the size of the field if you have not made a qualified run you can't race sunday.

Rear wing angle was too high.

If I'm not mistaken that rule changed a few years ago. Here in Phoenix a few years ago Jim Campbell (I forgot who's car) was DQ'd for weight on his qualifying run and going up for the final qualifying session ran into the back of the tow vehicle so he did not make another run and was listed as "No Time" but with only 16 cars entered he was inserted as #16 because he made an attempt in qualifying. They towed the car up and were in line to run on Sunday but had more problems and pulled out of line.

2023 , he was driving for Jeff Diehl. I forgot about that one.

Not good news from www.DragRaceCentral.com:

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Saturday run schedule for the 24th annual Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Weather prediction for today :
Thunderstorms likely in the morning. Then a chance of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 78F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90%.

The rule was changed after the Terry McMillen deal. If you make an "Attempt" you will be placed on the bottom of the qualifying sheet. If there are 16 or fewer cars, then you will be on the ladder.

When Terry was DQed the other drivers being unaware of the rule decided that in the future when it looked like there could be only one session, they would all idle down the track to insure they would be in the field. Nobody wanted that, so the rule was changed.

The Greek was also there, but (if I remember correctly) his car didn't start. So no attempt was made, and he was not on the ladder either. And would not be added today without having made an attempt.

JR Todd had a blower belt come apart, flail around and set off the fire bottles yesterday, spewing retardant on the track. Safety safari had to roll trucks.

Does this trigger a penalty?

Edit: I know he has his detractors, but I really like Al Tucci doing the announcing for Pro Mod. 😂hahah

Fire bottles going off are typically not a penalty. Only lubricants.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the rule had changed or in my old age forgot about it.

Erica’s 4th qualifying run was supposedly DQ because of out of spec rear tires. Just saw that on competition plus. Yes, I’m a night owl.
