What a shame. Though not one of the best touring acts Boston was the king of studio albums. I love Boston and one of my faves is the song "USE TO BAD NEWS". I love all there other stuff to. They are getting old and we who listend to them as teens are right behind!

We saw Boston a few years ago and it was way over produced in Portland. Schultz couldn't get to his guitar in time during Long Time but the guitar riff played any way via piped in recording.

my condolences .. but im sorry. they sucked.

WTF? Sucked, huh. 17 million copies of their first album sold. highest grossing debut album in history. until very recently I think someone else may have outdone them.
Obviously , a lot of people didn't think they sucked, and are sad the man is dead. And that's your contribution?

being an adent Zappa fan I loath pop music.

17 million copies of their first album sold

This makes my point. Its borderline bubble gum pop music. By the logic of sales alone Brittney Spears should be put on the same level as Mozart.

EDIT .. to add., yes they still suck.

Al.....I am one for voicing my opinion and I am usually against the grain here on the mater in regards to certain topics (fan stuff) but to drop that bomb about any individual who passes away fairly young, regardless of his/her vocation, is kind of sketchy and shows the true colors of a bitter person.....

What he said.

I was watching a VH-1 program "Behind the Music" about Boston. And one of the Band members answered the Question about them being Labeled "Corporate" Rock along with Journey and others. He said the Only people who call us Corporate Rock are the Bands who can't sell a F**kin Album! I guess Frank Zappa fell into that catagory. His Album covers were the Bomb, but other than maybe 2-3 songs his Stuff really Sucked!

Family Says Delp's Death Was Suicide

The family of Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, said his death was a suicide. "He was a man who gave all he had to give to everyone around him, whether family, friends, fans or strangers," the family said in a statement relayed by police Wednesday. "He gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace."
Delp, 55, died Friday at his Atkinson home.

Toxicology tests by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, said Lt. William Baldwin. Police said Delp had sealed himself inside a bathroom with two charcoal grills sometime between 11:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon, when he was found by fiancee Pamela Sullivan.

Delp also left two notes taped to a door and letters to his family and Sullivan. Baldwin said police do not know the contents of the letters.

The family's statement said Sullivan, Delp's children and their mother, Delp's ex-wife Micki Delp, were grateful for the sympathy they had received.

Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time."

He had planned to marry Sullivan this summer during a break in a tour with Boston. A lifelong Beatles fan, Delp also played with the tribute band Beatle Juice.

Beatle Juice performed a benefit last year to help build a new public library in Atkinson, a small town of about 6,000 residents on the Massachusetts border.

The family said last week it planned a private funeral followed by a public memorial to be scheduled later.

Al..this thread wasn't started seeking opinions about what you thought of the band.

You've reached a new low, Dude.

very tragic.
obviously i do not know if it applies in this case, but so often
great artists live in that fragile zone between genius and mental instability.
Mr. delp surely left an amazing body of work.

This is really sad news, I can`t believe he committed suicide. How things could ever get that bad for somebody to kill themselves is beyond me. I really feel for his kids right now.

Delp Suicide Note: 'I Am a Lonely Soul'

Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston who killed himself last week, left behind a note in which he called himself "a lonely soul," according to police reports released Thursday.

The note was paper-clipped to the neck of Delp's shirt when police found his body at his Atkinson home, on the bathroom floor, his head on a pillow. He had sealed himself inside with two charcoal grills; toxicology tests showed he had committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.

"Mr. Brad Delp. J'ai une ame solitaire. I am a lonely soul," the note read.

Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." He was cremated Wednesday, after a private funeral earlier in the week.

His fiancee, Pamela Sullivan, called police March 9 after noticing a dryer vent tube connected to the exhaust pipe of Delp's car. In the garage, police found a note taped to the door leading into the house.

"To whoever finds this I have hopefully committed suicide. Plan B was to asphyxiate myself in my car."

In another note on a door at the top of the stairs, Delp cautioned that there was carbon monoxide inside.

"I take complete and sole responsibility for my present situation. I have lost my desire to live," he wrote. The note also included instructions on how to contact his fiancee: "Unfortunately she is totally unaware of what I have done."

Police later found four sealed letters in an office addressed to Sullivan, his children, their mother, Micki Delp, and another couple whose identity was not disclosed. Police Lt. William Baldwin said police gave the letters to family members without reading them.

Sullivan told police that Delp "had been depressed for some time, feeling emotional (and) bad about himself," according to the reports.

He had planned to marry Sullivan this summer during a break in a tour with Boston. A lifelong Beatles fan, Delp also played with the tribute band Beatle Juice.

I saw that Brent, but chose not to show it.

Really sad..but for whatever reason Brad had..he felt it was legitimate..considering all he left behind for people that he cared for.

For those who cared..

Tom Scholz's write up YOU SHOULD READ THIS IF YOU'RE GOING TO COMMENT!

It's sad shit all the way around.

That note you posted (from online) didn't say anything..obviously, just the way Brad wanted it. The envelopes enclosed with his death were unsealed..just the way he wanted it. They were given to his family members and hopefully..there is some sort of closure for the family. He planned on getting married..had great kids..concerts coming up..money in the bank..pfft..I don't get it..but I understand how it happens.

RIP Brad

(breaks my heart actually..to have what he had..and give it up..knowing what you're doing..plan it..write letters..give warnings for people that find you..that just kinda hurts that it could have been different)
