Bob Gilbertson's return

I find it disheartening ESPN didn't spend a few minutes acknowledging his entry.

Too bad it may hurt his Trick Tank sponsorship, maybe a super team like DSR should go after it ;):D

it only took 3 post.

Anytime I see a Gilby thread I always wonder how many post until the rental car or DSR/trick tank issues are mentioned. I had the over under at 6, looks like I missed this time :D

Why what happened?

My memory is foggy about any DSR connection, but the rental car issue was something that happened in the pits at a Las Vegas race about 6-7 years ago, maybe longer, and it created lots of hard feelings on the Nitromater forum for a long long time. Not gonna go into it, but lets just say we lost a fun PR person's posts. He happens to be a legend in drag racing but not to some people. Anyway, that year Gilby was out to enjoy drag racing a funny car as much as humanly possible as an independent. That year, and maybe the year before, he ran both NHRA and IHRA races and hit darn near every one of them on both sides. If that wasn't dedication and love for the sport I don't know what is. I suspect it broke his bank account too. He had to step back from it after Autolite dropped their sponsorship with his team and they struggled to get new major sponsorship but nothing but small time sponsors came through for him so he eventually scaled back to almost nothing. Then a few years ago Bob Gilbertson's wife died unexpectedly and that loss took the wind out of his sails. I'm glad he kept some of his stuff and at least one complete race car so he can get out and have some fun at his home track in Charlotte once or twice a year. I suspect Bob is running his business and staying real close to his kids who he supports in their endeavors.

So, I hope the snarky and hateful posts about Bob Gilbertson will someday stop, and they were not actually directed at him, but indirectly they were. E'nuff said.

Wow, I hadn't heard about his wife, I'm sorry to learn about that. Nice to see him come out for Charlotte. I read elsewhere that Trick Tank is gone, not sure what he's up to now.

You could have let this go, but chose not too.

Legend? Not hardly. At the track outside of Gilbertson's or Herbert's pits this legend is better known as the sponge, leach, or mostly as the drunk. He left Nitromater after being caught in lie after lie.

Was Gilbertson driving that van in Las Vegas or covering for someone else?

I hope you were directing at my post as it was not intended to be snarky about BB or BG just the usual how long it takes for old story lines to come up when certain people are mentioned.

Your an ass

Well whatever, its in the past,id sure like to see him out tehre full time again, always looked like he was having fun!!

Jeremy,

Around 2000-2001, Trick Tank was sent a letter from DSR stating they could represent them in a much better, more professional manner than their current team.

Problem was, that Trick Tank was owned by Gilby.:o

I'm curious about this......did anyone see this "so called" letter, or was that just a rumor? I find it hard to believe that DSR wouldn't do a little research into the company before sending such a letter.....and seriously, who DIDN'T know that Trick Tank was owned by Gilby??

It's my understanding that Gilby. Sold the company in the last year or two but has stayed as an employee.

I agree. Wasnt a van was a car and a scooter of course. Always had the best time hanging out with them. Bob's 50th birthday party at the Nugget was the bomb. I always found Berserko to be upstanding guy if he promised something it happened unlike a lot of others in this sport.

Vegas has always had its share of interesting incidents another one comes to mind involving a guy, duct tape and a TF car. LOL
