Q1 was decent enough to get me excited about the evening session. Seems like whenever I get excited about qualifying, it never lives up to the expectations for some odd reasons and some not so odd.

At least eliminations always delivers.

With all the car owners, drivers, wrenches, etc,, Alan Johnson was in the middle of it all. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he wasn't the one who told NHRA: NO. He is president of PRO which represents all the Professional competitors, so he would be the spokesperson.

So there are no lights at BIR? Fans would likely rather see nitro cars than PS so maybe should run the fuelers first in case something happens? I know everyone wants the track conditions later but if the schedule is that tight …

I just watched last night’s qualifying show again.
Normally, I don’t pay much attention to what Tony says.
But, for him to say Jim Head needs to re-evaluate his personnel warrants Head taking him behind the woodshed for an attitude adjustment.
I'm sure Tony NEVER oiled the track.

I don't understand why NHRA officials are not proactive in a situation like this. Get with the PRO board and tell them the Left Lane needs to be fixed but we are running out of daylight, so we are to cancelling the session instead of PRO "Initiating the conversation".

To me, it appears the oil started leaking during the staging process. It's a shame no one caught it, but it would be almost impossible to see it. Did no one on the Head crew tell Alexander to stop the car?

Apparently Blake went right down the center of the track instead of pulling over to the side of the track. And why didn't he just stop the car after sliding on the oil? No one is blaming him. I was surprised by Tony's statement too. But that's drag racing. Stuff happens.

Allegedly, when Chad Head went to his first pre season test as a driver, Jim stood up at the pre test PRO member meeting and said, "Chad is new, but hes not going to do anything dumb on purpose... if youre driver messes with him during qualifying, Im going to whip your crew chiefs a$$, then im going to the top end, and if Chad isnt whipping your drivers a$$, then im going to whip Chads a$$ myself...do we have an understanding?"...at least thats how I heard it at the time...Mr Head is not one to be trifled with hes old school but fair and a real racer for sure.. I agree that Tped may want to stay out of any area behind a woodshed or a barn for the time being...

How often do you see a Jim Head car go out and oil the track? I would imagine percentage wise Jim is towards the top of clean runs made and he has been that way in the 15+ years I have watched NHRA. In fact in all of that time off the top of my head (pun intended) I think his cars have blown two bodies off, one the crank failure at Topeka and the other when Lindberg got into a pedalfest at Vegas. I guess Tony forgot the tail end of his career when he was oiling and blowing up pretty frequently, granted I know he did not have the money he was accustomed to, but that seems like a cheap shot towards Jim and their team.
