Automatic Chute Deployment - Haddock

On Terry Haddocks first round loss I noticed that his chutes didn't automatically deploy, but the body burst panel was dislodged.

From what I recall, the new safety device deploys the chutes when the intake manifold burst panel ruptures.

I wonder why his didn't?

Sometimes the blower studs will shear if they stressed from too many runs. It is possible that the studs sheared and the resulting pressure pushed out the burst panel in the body bust didn't rupture the burst panel in the manifold.

Just to clarify, the blower studs are aluminum and designed to break under a given load. This is to keep the blower case from breaking during a backfire type event. (fusible link theory) It is common practice to replace the blower studs every few runs because the stress from the belt tugging on the blower tends to weaken the studs.

I noticed that too, and wondered why no chute deployment. Glad I wan't the only one that noticed this. They should bring that up in the telecast next week and maybe explain what happened.

Didn't look to me like he banged the blower.. I think the panel just came loose when he shook and tipped over

I was impressed with his straight driving with a burst panel to look through instead of a windshield. No way he could've seen the track with that thing hanging right on top of the injector, dead center.

I noticed that too, and wondered why no chute deployment. Glad I wan't the only one that noticed this. They should bring that up in the telecast next week and maybe explain what happened.

I dont think the blower backfired, I think he had some engine failure and it quit on him. But if you look on the slow mo replay that mike dunn showed the burst panel on haddocks car was rattling loose on the launch so im thinking it came undone when he went into tire shake. Could be wrong though.

That's what I saw also ... they showed a few replays from a few angles. I never saw any type of flash that you would typically see during a backfire. Looks like maybe a hatch malfunction if anything ... or maybe just something really wierd that the new device cannot detect (yet). This is how technology evolves, right?

I just watched it on DVR, they popped out right before he turned, you can see the eyeballs dangling and chutes on the ground so it must have been a malfunction.
